Hello, I'm new to the forums and had a quick question which I think is actually a stupid question... here it goes anyway. Tonight, while replacing the in cabin filter on my 2005 G35 I broke the left tab (hinge) off of my filter cover, I put it back on & it seemed to be good. Can it eventually fall off & cause problems or what? Should I order a new one? I'm really careful with my car & just want to see if this is a problem or it's something I can leave like that. Thanks a lot for your time.

Can you take a pic? I am not familiar with your vehicle, but a picture is worth a thousand words and you might get some more responses.

Oh, and no question is a stupid question! Welcome aboard!

I'll try & get a picture tomorrow, I've been real busy with work so I haven't been checking the boards. Thanks a lot for the reply.

It should be fine. If your real anal like me I would replace it. But the most it can do is possibly rattle slightly if its not real secure or just fall off. You might get some debris coming into the car if it does fall off though. But I've done the same thing with some other Nissans like Altimas and just hung it back up and they never fell off.

I did the exact same thing four days ago. Broke off both little white tabs on the left side of the filter cover. I couldn't see it because access was awkward. Live and learn. Won't to that next time. Let me know if you find a place to order a replacement. I'm guessing it would have to be through the dealer. I couldn't find anything online. I'm holding mine secure with good ole duct tape.

For those of you out there considering replacing the filter yourself, it's not that hard. Just learn from our mistakes. Be careful when you're removing that white filter cover. Just know there are tabs on the left that are just waiting to be snapped off if you're not careful.

I almost replaced mine for the second time today, but decided against it because I was in a hurry and didn't want to rush it. You should be able to oder one from http://www.everythinginfiniti.com - might be worth calling rather than trying to find it on the site. 1-888-216-5328. You guys aren't the first... I think I remember seeing a write-up with a caution not to break that tab...

Thanks for the tip on Infinitipartsusa.com. I called them as you suggested and they had the replacement cabin filter cover in stock. Cost about $6.00 plus shipping. Hopefully I won't break the tabs on that one.

Thanks again.

Glad I could help! Those guys are great... and I'm glad that the cover is so cheap, since I have probably jinxed myself into breaking it now.

when you remove the cover , you unclip the right side and gently tug the cover towards the right to remove from the tabs on left, even if broken i think they still sort of stay in place. the only problem i have seen was that the filter is installed in the air box incorrectly and was binding with the recirc door. the filter fits in a slot in the back of the airbox, if it is installed too high the door will catch the filter, after replacement just check the recirc function for proper operation. if installed improperly there will be a tapping noise when changing recirc.
