OK not on the Q but on my SE_R, I figured you guys wouldnt mind if I vented here, I dont know anyone on the nissan forum side, I was driving in 5th for about 2 minutes at 65 mph when all of a sudden the car just died, after I towed it home last night I pulled the valve cover to see what looked like a bomb had gone off under my valve cover 7 rocker arms broke, the oil squirter was cut, and a shield that sits under the oil spray bar was broke, no missed shifts or anything, however I must say that my se-r does have 253,000 miles on it and sees 7800 rpms everyday, this is my back up for the Q so it cant be down too long, I should have it running tommorow, I hope.

Sounds like it jumped time and the weak link was the rocker arms.

Well I pulled it all apart and from what I can tell is that one rocker let go, this one was under the oil despertion shield, the shield broke then the broken piece got caught in the timminmg chain, once in the chain all hell broke loose, it broke the chain guides that are a part of the block, it then just took out the rest of the rockers and the spray bar, the oil pan contained most of the parts but it also contained a ton of metal, with that said I sold it today for a $1000 and purchased a mint 92 loaded for $1700, I need the SE-R as a back up for the Q, plus I had it for almost 8 years, the car had a ton of mods and im gonna miss it, it actually was able to hold off my Q till about 100-110, the car put down 172 to the wheels, it will be missed, but the new one is mint and will not be touched like the last one, im gonna do all the basic updates and tint the windows, put on some KYB GR2s and cruise, the Q now has a new sister. :D

Engines have a finite life! And this is a function of rpm stress creating metal fatigue.Did you change cams to a more agressive profile doing so without replacing rockers at regular intervals will cause this. How about oil squirter tubes did you have the updated units with the larger holes?

I did have the updated tubes, and the updated tensioner, however after I installed the latger cams I did noy update the rockers and stuck with the original high mileage items,I guess it was my fault, with that many miles and the number of times I revved it to 7900 rpms I figured somethin would happen sooner or later.

New cams always get new springs, retainers, and followers/rockers as the old ones take a set to the existing cams. Even 0.003" in lift changes is 1%.
