If you experience the click-no-start on an M56 that would otherwise run, that is usually the sign of a bad starter. Like many other Nissans with the same starter, the company issued an alternate part number for a rebuilt unit.
I'll go out on a limb and say they have finicky/defective starters, but who's say that is the only problem afflicting you?
On the other hand, a starter will have a tough time turning a locked engine and might in fact click and hum.
Since you have taken the car to a pro shop, save yourself the frustration and hopeful guesswork.
The mechanics can put a breaker bar onto the crank pulley bolt and attempt to turn it. If it turns, then there is a chance the car was misdiagnosed, the engine is in fact not locked and you'll be on your merry way after replacing the starter... or the battery terminal... or reprogramming your key, etc.
If it doesn't turn, the engine is locked and it's up to you to make the next move.

I'll leave you with this nugget:
(I am aware that it might fall where the advice offered by everyone else has fallen)
Do you see how much you fell in love with this car that doesn't even run despite all the BS you are discovering about it? Good!
Yes, we all love our cars and because of that, there is a very slim chance any sane M56 owner is giving up their car for $3,400 unless they are damn sure it's a hopeless case. Even more so if it is a unique Nismo edition.
