i currently shoping for a transmission for my 1st generation Q, im looking for one that has 50,000 miles or close to that range. I put a new motor in that has 50,000 miles on it so im basically bringing this car back to life. Which transmission is better to get cause i was reading from 1990 to 1992 the car took off in 2nd gear for smooth take offs and from 1993 to 1996 it took off in first, which do u recomend to buy? Also im also currently looking into buying proformance chip or that nico ecu i been hearing about. This question always kept bugging me but what is the actual power does the VH45DE engine make i know its underated so let me know. Like dyno figures would help me know ^^What is the fastest 0-60 time you had in your Q?if it helps i have a 92 Q45 and the new engine is alive and kickin but the transmission is done so i neep help thanks guys

Well The fastest 0-60 time I got was around 8 seconds

I would go with a second generation transmission (some 92-96): if you want durability and a long life transmission but you must add the external cooler and check the fluid before buying of course.

If you want a 5% (Wes said) increase in acceleration speed and just overall better transmission then go with the first generation transmission (90-some 92) but these transmissions are stressed from the begging of there life because they always started in second gear so they might not last very long but again the cooler would help.

or the third and most popular option is OEM remanufactured and if you go that route you might as well get the first gen transmission.

The actual power was around 305 Torque/HP when the engine was new. but you can dyno your car just put the transmission in fail safe mode (3rd gear mode wont go out of 3rd gear) so you can get better numbers because the transmission wont go above 2nd gear I forget why but I just know that.

Depends on the dyanamometer, fuel, air temperature, barometric pressure, coeffeicient of friction of the tires etc. In the end, all you have is a number that may or may not be replicable.

If you are going to all that effort and doing it right, get the remanufactured AT from Joe and add an auxiliary ATF cooler (B&M 70264 or 70268) from summit racing.

Lots of posts, so reading will save you time and money.

94-96 transmissions are a special subset which have different 1st and 2nd gear sets that are effectively 5% worse than earlier verstion so [0> 95mph] acceleration suffers [ by 0.2 secs] with this later version.

Whether 2nd or 1st gear start is solely a function of TCU year model [93-96] the transmission just does what it is told to do.

So ideally a 1993 year Q had the best of both worlds 1st gear start and the old faster gear set.

How do you know which transmission is installed in your car?

Well my car doesnt do 55 MPH at 2000 RPMs which is highway MPG it does 59 or so.

And I also called up and asked for a replacement: My 1993 q45 transmission: 3102m51x79

Cant go by the above information, as both versions of transmission have the exact same ratios in their third and forth gears resulting in the same RPM at any given speed{aprox 2000 rpm at indicated 60 MPH}

ONLY first and second gears{ratios} were different between the two versions of the transmissions.

I believe Infiniti only rebuilds the later version transmissions currently-but not positive

Good news to all the older 90-92 transmission is still available and it costs 2000 and some change. but having it shipped to a shop save you 50 bucks.
