...one of the most beautifully-designed cars (in my opinion) of all time.

Gorgeous, classic, timeless and functional. Such a perfect shape. Time to start looking for one. :)

I love the rears or those cars. They have such a old trans-am racing series look. In my opinion this is the last good body style of camaro.

I agree about the 1970 split bumper camaro. Very sexy car. One of a very few cars that looked good from every angle. One of my brothers friends had purchased one new, gorgeous blue. The trick now is finding one that has not been molested.

In person, I've never seen one in good condition. They seem to suffer the hardest of all generations of Camaro.

I never understood why the 67-69 were so much more popular.

Every time I see the new camaro or challenger, I just see Tonka toys...

I like the 67-69...after that it's been dead to me. :gotme

Makes me wish I still had my '72. :frown:

BUT if I still had it, it means that I would not have gotten a 240. That 240 led me to all my friends here, so it was a solid trade.

I miss my '72, the car was a nightmare though but I still loved the way it looked. It was me and my dads project car before he died, but when me and my wife decided to move to Kentucky I finally made the decision to quit throwing money at it and sold it to someone that would do something with it. I spent $10,000+ on the car, it never ran right(even with a freshly rebuilt motor) and I had just started getting into the body repairs before I sold it. It was a clean car for it's age but my lack of knowledge and interest in small block Chevy motors made me love the car a lot less and it needed to be completely stripped, minor body repairs done, and repainted. Sometimes I think about calling the guy I sold it to and see if I could buy it back but I know I still couldn't afford to restore it to it's former glory :frown:

Great article and I've gotta agree the 70-73 Camaros were the best looking ones, even more so than the first gen models.

The Chevrolet Camaro was the car that got me into cars. When my family and I first came to this country when I was a little kid, the first thing my dad did was buy a white 1976 Chevrolet Camaro with a 350 V8. I still remember him taking us the beach on the weekends in that car. Even today when I sit in a second or third gen Camaro, I get a feeling of nostalgia from just the smell of the interior. I hope to one day acquire a 74+ second gen and restore it.

My dad and I argue about this all the time. :chuckle:

He likes the split bumper 2nd gen over the first gen.
I like the first-gen better.

I still like the 2nd gen a lot (not so much the later big-bumper revision) but there's something about the lines of the first-gen that really hits the sweet spot for me. Like most of GM's mid-60s designs, there's something very powerful about its simple styling. '66 Impala, '67 Chevelle, '67 Camaro, '66 Nova...all sharp-looking, but all really quite simple three-boxes. GM did clean-but-aggressive very well in that era. I was not a fan of the busier '70s revisions of most of these cars...the Camaro being the one exception.

You nailed all my favorites.

A 70-73 Chevelle does nothing for me, but a 68-69 is gorgeous.

Same with the Impala, Nova, and damn near ALL of the GM A-body cars.

I meant to type '67 for the Chevelle (for the squareness) but you know how much I love the '69 (the old tail light argument again  ).

Yep, I always preferred the '68 to the '69. Minimalist taillights FTW.

As far as camaros go, If I were buying one, I'd lean toward first generation over the second, simple classic styling and more fuctional. The 70.5 split bumper was gorgeous, and I did like the wrap around dash. The 70 1/2 was better car to drive and to be seen in, but I think I;d go with the older one for ownership.

Great article, but I just can't get into the early 70's GMs. I don't know exactly what it is, I've never driven one, but I just like the lines from the mid to late 60's. Although, I can see absolute beauty in the profile of the car, I just can't love the front or rear. I don't hate them, I just don't love them.

I dig the fastback stang as well but that picture is a s*** representation...... Red interior is generally hideous.
