WOW! Watching CNN, Looks like IKE will wipeout or flood alot of cars and homes in its path...hopefully all our fellow NICO members have battened down the hatches! Brian, hows it looking in Austin?

Beware buying a used car from coastal Texas. After Katrina the used car market was flooded with flood damaged cars disguised to look like they weren't. Telltale signs are mold, and rust under the seats and dashboard.I always wonder when you see the pictures of cars sitting in water, why didn't the owners move them to high ground before the flooding? Remember the pictures from Katrina of hundred of school buses and railroad cars ruined by flooding. Why didn't they move them.

Very windy here in New Orleans. Our lakefront and Gulf coasts are totally flooded here just from surge (8 to 10 feet ). Met plenty of evacuees from Galveston tonight in the French Quarter. Galveston Yacht Club burned down and the coast is totally flooded. Austin will see wind and rain but the surge is the killer they will be spared from. Galveston is just like Miss., Alabama, and Florida when it comes to direct hits. They don't have any wetlands to hold off the surge...they ARE the barrier for Houston and other inland cities. Believe me, there isn't a New Orleanian I've spoken with that doesn't feel for Texas...that was us just a week ago. I hope Brian and his family are ok. Boris

Yeah, I am on a plateau at about 1K feet. More worried about winds and branches. TexasOil and Fridge are probably wondering about their cars.

We may not get rain unless it stays more westerly. We'll see.

Latest models predict a total whiff for Austin, maybe not even rain.

My cousin and family live in Lake Jackson ... just over an hour drive south of Houston.

I suspect they have evacuated North (probably went to another relative in Austin), but I better call them and see how they are doing!

Lake Jackson probably got hammered by wind more than rain.

A little windy now and then here, but not too much excitement.

Read a news article that said Entergy, the electric utility in the Houston/Galveston area is telling its customers that evacuated not to come home yet as they may not be able to restore electric power for several weeks. They said their electrical transmission system suffered catastrophic damage, and two poeer plants are down too.

We got all of Ike's flooding here. Not where I live, but certainly nearby. A few dead people.

Maxnix...I'll be in Austin next Monday and Tuesday. I have to do some recruiting for my job at the University of Texas. Outside of recruiting students and "mingling" with the college girls, name a couple of nice restaurants/bars in the area where I can eat at. I'm staying at the Hilton Austin near the airport.
