When i brake, sometimes the rear pads make a grinding noise. about a year ago this same noise was comin from the front brakes... brought car to dealership, the front brake pads needed to be changed and one of my rotors had deep grooves in it. they said it had to be replaced along with the rotor on the other side. Dealership tried to charge me about 3gs for the job but luckily after raising hell they covered the rotors under warranty.... Anyway this grinding noise is beggining to occur from the rear and i need to change my rear brake pads, im trying to avoid the rediculous prices from the dealership and i have a couple questions.....

the pads from the dealership would run me about $120 - can i find brembo brake pads anywhere else for cheaper??

are other brake pads that are compatible w/ the brembo system better/ good enough to buy?

the dealership said i would have to buy shims which cost $70 - should i have these shims already? ; what is the purpose of these shims and are they necessary??

is it recommended to resurface my rear rotors when i change out the pads?

thanks for the input!!

ps: where can i get a trunk cargo net for cheap??

Either of those places are going to be way cheaper than the dealer. Take the rotors off and have them resurfaced by automotive parts store. You will save alot of money by not using the dealer for service. the shims aren't necessary, just reuse yours and clean everything with brake cleaner before installing the new pads.

the hawk hps pads will perform as good or better than oem. they are also 50$ cheaper than the oem pads, I would buy those or the Project U NS Street Pads work well also, I have them for front pads on my G. They are only 62$ on mynismo.com Just make sure to have your rotors turned.

you don't always have to turn the rotors. depends on the condition of them. if your pads got metal to metal then yes you need to turn the rotors

I picked up a set of Axxis Pads off ebay when I changed out my rotors and pads on all 4 wheels. It cost me $80 for all four wheels for the pads. I can't find the same deal right now but for the rear you can get them for about $50 +shipping.

Here's a link to one of the listings. Axxis Rear Brembo Pads

I've had them on my G35 for roughly 9 months so far and am highly pleased, I've got the same stopping power and less brake dust

They don't come with shims but as RED mentioned just take the shims off the old brembo pads and put them on the axxis pads. This part really doesn't wear much cause only the piston pushes against it so no real rubbing to speak of.

thanks for the input guys!! ------ havent decided which pads im goin with yet, but i think im going to try to do the work myself. Ive changed out brake pads before a couple years ago on my previous car (98 Trans Am) w/ help from a friend in his garage, but i was wondering if any specific tools are required for the brembo brake system...?
