i got a silvia with the stock redtop sr in it. when i bought it it came with a breather air filter instead of a catch can. when i boost a lot it spits oil out all over the exhaust manifold..is it safe to just plug this line where the breather is? or do i have to go with an aftermarket oil catch can? what's the stock setup like?

Catch can, or recirculate it back into the air intake (stock setup).Do not plug the line or leave the filter on there.

If you're running a stock intake on your car there should be a plug on it where you can connect the hose. After the maf and before the turbo

i don't have a stock intake. i guess i'll just end up getting a catch can. is it unsafe to leave it as is?

what are your compression numbers? Spitting oil out the breather is definitely not the sign of a healthy engine. Last time mine was doing that, one of my piston rings or ringlands were gone.

Same here. Do a compression/leak down and get back with the numbers.

There are a lot of people who knows what they're talking about in this thread and then there's those who are just talking out their @sses. If you have a catch can and you're filling it up every few days, your rings are possibly bad. It's normal for oil shoot out of your pcv system if you're running high boost. Pressure builds up inside the crank case and the oil has no where else to go. That's why you need a catch can.

good point there....i have a sr of my friends in my garage now we are rebuilding and before it blew it was blowing oil out of the breather and blowing the dipstick out also....but i suggest you to do a compression check and then see what u come up with..if the compression is good then just reroute it and move on
