The memo said students would no longer be allowed to bring writing implements to school. It said pencils would be provided for students in class and any students caught with pencils or pens after Nov. 15 would face disciplinary action for having materials 'to build weapons.'

You guys are worse then fox when it comes to sensationalizing news.

Try checking the validity of news stories before just going off on them guys.

Does SUCK for the teacher (who definitely deserves all of it and more), they try and take a firm stand and the superintendent immediately and publicly smacks them down. Talk about getting your credibility destroyed lol.

Well, when the American education system continues to kick out illiterate people who cannot read, write, or form original thoughts of their own so thus would not need to express them, are writing implements even necessary anymore?

When I was in elementary school we used to use bic pens and rubber bands to make bows, and lunch straws, tape, and straight pins to make arrows. They stuck nicely in ceiling tiles. We'd have wars with them at recess.

in my classes in elementary school, kids turned mechanical pencils into staple launchers and would shoot staples at each other across the room. very dangerous. i can see the logic behind such a ban, but it's absolutely absurd and unreasonable to try and implement it.

Had to take home economics, Bic pen-remove ink and ball- cut the end off shoe lace and insert sewing needle and va-la instant blowgun!

We used to just use a rubber band wrapped around our thumbs and index finger for a bow. Playing cards hurt like a b**** when launched like that.

I have fond memories of using a piece of paper to get the lead on my pencil extra sharp before stabbing classmates.

Why? It's not funny. The American system of public education is broken.
