Traditionally, it's always been a good idea to avoid hitting the really high digits until after your break-in period. I think the thing that's more important is not letting your RPMs hover at any one point for too long.

so like more than likely what number should I try to stay under 75? 80? because I usually take a toll road to school and theres really any cops out there gunning ppl at the time I go to school so it is really tempting to crank up the speed

Next to IMPOSIBLE on the CVT...

I have heard both ways...I have heard the newer cars didn't have as much of a break in period.

Really...I would not gun it / red line for a couple months even...1-2 k...

Just enjoy the car more, take the back roads (access roads in TX). Save yourself the tolls...plus your car could get a couple of extra Accelerates in there. (Based on the assumption Houston is built like Dallas and San Antonio with a 2 lane access road right next to all the free ways on both sides)

well they got the feeders along the main interstates but all the stopping and going at the lights would guzzle my gas and plus it'll take me like more than an hour to get to school cause I live about 50 miles from my school, if I stayed around 70-75 mph would I be alright?

ive called the service dept at nissan and they said that there isn't a break in period. however there is a wear in period to roughly 15k miles. They do dyno the cars before they leave the factory for a few minutes.

Also, that goes for the life of the car. Some say just the first 200k, but I think it is best to do that for as long as you own it.

You know, I use to be very opinionated about this when we were rebuilding our 5.0s. A friend of my dad sort of changed that.

I remember when he bought his new F150 and drove it like a bat out of hell - I mean the acceleration pedal was on the floor from stoplight to stoplight. I questioned him on that and he called bs on me. I did have to eat some crow because the last time I had inquired about his truck, he had over 200k miles on it with no issues.

Similarly, years ago I purchased a Honda Civic from Dallas and drove it back home, a distance of about 300 miles. Everyone warned me on keeping the RPMS the same for such a distance. I initially tried to vary the RPMs on the way back but it was a pain in the arse.

I've since given the vehicle to my son who, again, has had no issues whatsoever.

The conclusion I've drawn is that it really doesn't matter that much. That engines are more or less broken in from the factory. It was still difficult to not baby the Altima when I drove it off the lot - It's a new car and you want the best for it. But I didn't worry as much as I use to.
