Hello,I wanted to introduce myself to this forum as I recently "broke my cherry" and bought the new 2007 Infiniti G35 Sedan Journey. After much debate and consideration, I chose the journey package as I was not thoroughly impressed with the paddle shifters on the Sport package and was confident that I could make my own modifications without the factory pricing... after a few weeks of being a proud new G owner, I have been modest with my throttle behavior as I would like to break in my new car. Combined with the fact that it has been 115 degrees here in the desert and will be for the next month or two... does anyone have any suggestions for ensuring a proper break-in for my new ride? Like I said, I have tried to maintain my composure with the accelerator, but it's kind of hard with 306 ponies itching to be released. Will high revs damage the engine at this young stage in its life? I'm woking on modifying it slightly to meet my personality, but not too much... I see that the preferred aftermarket manufacturer is Stillen... any other suggestions?

Welcome to NICO!! Glad to have you aboard!

For any new engine, keep the original oil in, and do not go over 5k RPMs. Vary your engine speed on the highways. You only need to do this for 500-1000 or so miles. After that, change your oil (I recommend Royal Purple 10W-40). You don't need to change the filter on the first one. When you hit 2500, change oil and filter.

Follow the break-in procedures and regular oil changes to make your car last.

Stillen is a great aftermarket dealer. They have an excellent CAT-back exhaust. The cold air intake is good, though the JWT PopCharger / Z-tube is the same setup for less $$.

Cruise the forums and let us know if you have any questions or problems.

Now, lets see some pics!!

Pics soon to come... I haven't uploaded them yet on my snapfish acct., but will forward soon... thanks for the advice... I was a little worried, 'cause I "romped" it once or twice and wanted to make sure that wasn't going to cause any longterm damage... the car is PERFECT! An absolute bullet that exceeds my every expectation... infiniti has gained a true customer in this one...

Welcome

Here is my $.02

I have a 2006 G35 Sedan 6sp manual with Premium Package A including factory Sirius no navigation.

When new up until 21k miles my G35 was using a quart of oil every 1000miles. Now at almost 32k miles I recently went 3750 miles between oil changes and used one quart.

My advise!

1- Check your oil frequently. I'm not sure about the 2007 G35's but there are many posts on this forum from those that waited until they heard knocking noises until they checked their oil. On my 06 sedan the L mark on the dip stick indicates two quarts low. I use factory filters. My first oil change was at 1500 miles. I do all my own oil changes and use mostly Pennzoil 5w-30. I did use 10w30 when new and was only getting 1k/quart. I change my oil & filter every 3k miles or so. I just bought a 12 qt case of Pennzoil on sale at Pep Boys yesterday for $12Many recommend Royal Purple but the last time I checked it was $6/quartSince I change oil & filter every 3k miles I don't feel it is worth it but that is your choice?

BYW, I have been changing oil every 3k miles for over 40 years on all of my vehicles and have gotten over 200k miles out of some of themI may be the oldest on this site driving a 6 speed manual? My G is the best vehicle that I've ever owned. Even better than my old 1940 Pontiac straight 6 cylinder that had a 3 speed shift on the column. It even had running boards and an AM radio.

Good luck with your 07 G

Thanks Telcoman! Appreciate the advice... I'm a younger guy, but my father always instilled in me the 3,000 mile rule growing up and I haven't been able to break myself of the habit... I'm at 1900 miles right now on the new G, but I noticed that a scheduled maintenence reminder chimed in at 1500 miles... (Do they pre-set this at the dealer?) I noticed that you mentioned using a 5w30 in your infiniti... however, with the EXTREME heat that the desert can pump out, I think I'm going to stick with a synthetic to keep things cool, so I may have to push my miles out to 4500 to keep the costs down... Good advice on keeping a close eye on the oil...

You can do it yourself in maint. Menu reset it and you can set up other times on it also. It is simple you can do it.

If you haven't changed the oil yet, get rid of the dino oil from the factory! It could have metal and gunk from assembly. As for the weight, I live in Georgia and use 10W-40 synthetic (royal purple). My car does not consume oil. I think the issue is that if you have an engine that consumes oil (not all do) then going with a heaver weight will help. For filters, I've used NAPA gold for years on all my cars. Did some research a while back, and they were in the top 3 best filters. One interesting note is that too much filtration can be bad (K&N). The filter can be bypassed because of flow issues, which doesn't protect the engine!

Ohhh, forgot to mention that you should get the front bumper coated with a clear-bra. It only takes a few months before they start to look really bad with rock chips. Trust me....its worth the money!!!!! I wish I had it done...
