Ok, so I have been Googling this for the past month or so. It seems that it isn't just my model of the Sentra that has this problem, but here goes. I have a 2013 Sentra, purchased in Texas and now in San Diego if that matters. But after we moved to San Diego the breaks started squeaking. The car has less than 15,000 miles and we have taking it back to the shop at least three times. They told us that they replaced the pads each time. On the third time, the person in the maintenance department said that this is probably because they stopped making breaks with asbestos and transitioned to a new material, ceramic or metal or whatever. Which makes a little sense to me, because I know they used to make them with asbestos till they found out it causes cancer, or that really long word from the commercials. He also said that we would probably never be rid of the noise and might have to live with it.
I do not really want to accept this answer. It isn't the type of squeak that sounds like it is going to shatter glass cups, but it is still annoying and it doesn't only happen just after driving the car for the first time, like it would from moisture.
My questions are:
1) Does anyone know what is actually causing this?
2) Is there a way to tell if it is my front or back breaks without spending several hundreds dollars just diagnosing it?
3) Does anyone know if installing aftermarket/performance/OEM breaks would stop this?
4) If the answer to #3 is yes, does anyone recommend a decent set of after market breaks or rotors if needed that I could replace my factor set with that is comparable in price to the factor set of breaks?
- I have changed a set or two of breaks before, and have friends that I could help me install if needed. However if there is a decent place in SD that is charging about that Nissan does in San Diego, I can always go there.
Thank you in advance for any advice.
