All, I am a bit worried about my new altima coupe, I just got it about a month ago and it is still in break in period. The dealer told me that I need to drive less than 60 mph during this period. However, yesterday I ran about 70 for a couple seconds to cut the lane and get to the exit because the car next to me wouldn’t let me cut . I am a bit worried about the engine, one thing I am sure is that it was still under 4k RPM. I hope I didn't hurt the engine.

Any opinions?

I had the exact same problem when my 07 3.5 SE was new. I had less than 1000 miles on it when I drove it between 69 and 71 mph. I heard noises that were as hard on my ears as listening to Danny Gokey scream the last notes of "Dream On" on American Idol a couple of weeks ago.

After the car was towed to the dealer, I was told that I damaged the piston return spring. The service manager told me that I drove the car 1 to 2 mph too fast during the break in period. This in turn caused the failure of my muffler bearing, and caused my blinker fluid to leak.

Thank goodness that this was covered under warranty, as I had 59 payments left on my 60 month car loan.

I am thankful that I had exchanged the winter air in my tires for summer air, as summer tire air has more negatively charged ions than spring air.

My tires were not damaged by the excessive speed.

None of the above is true about my car. You can sleep well at night knowing you did no harm to your engine.

I was nervous until I reached the last sentence.

I just picked my coupe up last week and I flippin' Love It!! My dealer told me not to worry about the break-in period.....I didn't really like that answer. My manual says not to get the rpm's over 4000 for 1200 miles, nothing about mph. Well I can roll at 80 at 2500 in 6th gear so I figure I'm well below 4000! I don't think I could have kept it under 60 at all-ever! It also says don't roll at the same speed for very long which is a bit tricky when your going on a long road trip. Still in the break-in after 1 month?? I'm at 550 miles at day 7, figure I'll be done in the next 10 days.
