I have a relatively new M45, and with most new cars, I usually do an oil change very early on before the first standard change interval. I've had good luck with engine life on other vehicles, and thought I'd do the same with my Infiniti. I was at the dealer today, and the salesman looked at me like I was crazy, and told me that the oil from the factory was a special "break-in" formula, and that I shouldn't change it before 3,750. He also said you don't need to do this on Infinitis. My experience is that salesmen usually know much less than you would think they should - is this guy full of it, or is there truth to it? I have trouble believing that the factory would put a different oil weight in the car than what it is built to run on normally.

I've heard that before from both the Volvo and Saab dealer when I was stationed in Germany. I still don't know if its true or not but I just went with it. Partly because both times I was informed of it the oil change was going to be early and extra money for them that they were actually turning down. If I were you I'd just wait until the minimum mileage had been met 3750 and then change it. Just my opinion though.

Welcome to NICO!

There is no special break-in oil used.

Do the first oil change (and filter) at a few hundred miles, then at 1500 to 1750 (and filter) and then every 3750 from then on.
