Hey Guys,

Ok, I have just about ran 1,200 in my 2009 G37 Sport Coupe without going over 4,000 RPM's.

Where do I go from here? Is the car totally broken in and can I run it anyway I want or are there some more advanced break in proceedures that will benifit performance?

Thanks,

Geoff

At 1,200 I know some people like to do a break in oil change, and I'm not sure if you'll want to use ester oil or not. You have a newer G and I'm not completely sure what the deal with the oil is.But anyway, since it's somewhat broken in, take her through a wide range of RPMs, don't be afraid to show her who's boss

You're good to go really. As said, you can either keep going and drive it as normal or some people like to get an oil change at this point, and then change again at 3750.

Well done! You are driving an awesome car. Any synthetic oil will do at this point or you can try the Nissan esther oil, which is recommended. I use Royal Purple.

As Ar878 siad, show her who is boss. You are driving a car that was designed to be reved all day long.

Wow, You are a better man than I am. I broke in quite a few cars and I never ever able to keep my promises. I always promise myself not to go over 4k rpm as I supposed to brake in the car. O just have the itch and push it. LOL

Congrats man.

Here is what I usually do. I change my oil around 2k sometimes a little earlier on all my new cars. Most peole say the new cars nowdays are come as an already good to go. Well here is a sample from the net. It is from a car with 5K on the odo. First oil change. Look at the metals in it.

Hope this helps

You could just change the filter, and run it till 3750. No harm in that. But if you plan on keeping it for 4 years or more, Buy the ester oil. You wont regret it when at 100k the engine revs up as quietly and as smoothly as when new. Ester oil P/N 999MP-5W30EP. Should sell for $12 a quart. You need 5. The car has ester oil in it now.

As shown in the oil analyses of the oil in a new vehicle that just maybe it would be a good idea to change oil earlier than later.

I typically change my oil around 1500 miles the first time and put in exactly the same oil that was present at birth. I then change oil around the 3 k mark and put in the oil I plan on using until death. At this time is where I tend to push the car a little harder, basically drive it like I plan on driving it.

A good way to do a break in would be like if this was a piece of industrial equipment which I am very familiar with. Typically in industrial equipment you take oil samples in lubricated equipment and gas samples for example in electrical equipment. You analyze these samples and it will tell you where the wear is taking place. This will continue for some time before it settles down to some base line. By doing this you will know the optimum parameters for machine operation. This of course is a car and in this case the expense would add up to far more than the benefit if done all the time.

So again while it probably is not necessary to change oil earlier than the 3750 mark, it certainly is not going to hurt and may be beneficial. I would however still consider the time period as part of the break in.

As far as changing oil filters I saw a study of New York taxis that use synthetic oil when it first came out. From an economic stand point (for a taxi) it was found that you did not need to do a full oil change until 25 k miles, however it was very desirable to change the filter frequently which of course means you are changing out some of your oil at the same time. At one time I was changing out my roll of toilet paper every couple of hundred miles in my old Plymouths, however filters have improved since then.

Look, my good friend, after the first break in oil change, do your oil change every 3,000 miles or less. Fresh oil can keep an engine going for many years.
