New to the G37x, about 100mi on it. I know there are a lot of opinions on this, but I'd still like to hear more.

Should you take it easy for the first 500-1000 miles, or drive it like you usually would (hard, for me)? On my previous Legacy GT Ltd, if you took it too easy at first, it would "learn" that as your driving style and act accordingly from then on. Had to have a reset procedure done on mine, then retrained it. All advice welcomed, although not necessarily taken. ;)

I have always heard....but im old school....break it in easy for 500 miles. Gears, brake pads, rings etc all need a break in period. I have done it faithfully all my life and never had major engine/drivetrain problems.

You have some serious willpower if you took it easy on that Z for 500 miles.

Well, I usually trade every 3-4 years, but this one might be a keeper. I'm 3 years from retiring, when my daily driving will go from about 50 miles a day down to perhaps 10-15. Assuming all the JFM* stuff holds up, it could be a ten year car. After reading other threads on this, and finding that the ECU should keep learning when I begin driving in my normal more agressive style, I'm trying to follow the prescribed breakin. But my right foot feels very heavy. :naughty:

Looked at my odometer when I pulled into my parking spot this morning. It was 499.

:naughty:

Whoo hoo for my drive home today.

Seems to me the Owners Manual was pretty specific about the first 1200 mile bread-in on my G35. What does your say?

The manual? I'm still trying to decipher the instructions for the displays....

i took it easy on my car for the first 1000 miles, but i did vary speed and had occasional high rpm moments. I was at the track with the odometer at 1001 miles LOL.

but i will say now that i have 30k miles on my car the engine has really opened up now. I'm loving it!!!

Yeah, that's pretty much where I'm headed, except I won't be at the track. Too damn old for that. Being gentle with the car under normal circumstances isn't so tough, but putting your foot into it is irresistable when someone's just being a d*ck and you need to get around them or away from them.

What's the "DVD Hack" in your sig?

i did some re wiring to allow me to be able to use the dvd player and input into the navigation while the car is moving... you can control the navigation by voice though, but i like to have both options...

I also have the NAV bypass...same thing really. It tricks the car into thinking that you're stopped by cutting the vehicle speed sensor. The DVD hack requires you to trick the car into thinking your parking brake is engaged.

Well, go-o-o-llee, I done hijacked my own thread!

Good info on both hacks, but I don't have nav so I won't be able to use them. Would love it if someone hacked the music box to allow direct copy of mp3 files, though. Although that doesn't matter much, I've found that the car stereo starts and stops my $20 4Gb mp3 player when I start and stop the car, so it works more or less the same as the music box and holds about 4.5 times as much music.

The NAV by-pass will also allow you to search the HD while the car is moving. Basically, anything that gets grayed out while moving, you can access.

i know how to do the DVD hack im pretty sure, (simply ground the dvd to the car instead of the parking brake)

BUt the NAV hack, i did some searching and couldnt find anything, is there a thread on that anywhere that you know of?
