I just recently took my brake caliper + rotor off both front wheels. Anyway, I was putting it back together, and for some reason the brake caliper on the passenger side doesn't clear the tire. The driver's side one is fine, and I can't figure out why the hell the passenger side caliper is scraping against the inside of the rim. I've taken it apart and put it back together numerous times.. still no luck. any suggestions?

Maybe you got both pads on the outside of the brake rotor. Or maybe there is something stuck between the rotor and the hub. Did you take the caliper mounts loose? Maybe you have the caliper mount on the wrong side of the mount.

I don't see how you could have gotten the system back together wrong.

Take another close look at the other side, there has to be something different.

Let us know what it is, this thread might help someone else in the future.

Did you compress the pistons when you reinstalled it?

that's what I'd say too...but he said that the caliper doesn't clear the TIRE. If he hadn't compressed the piston it would be an issue of the caliper not fitting back over the rotor.

to clarify: you're saying you got the caliper back on, and mounted properly, but the wheel won't go on w/out hitting the caliper?

Yup, the caliper wasn't clearing the inside of the rim.. you could hear it scraping against the rim when you rotated the tire.

I managed to fix it, although I still don't really know what the hell was wrong. I switched the caliper mounts with the one on the driver's side, and this helped a little bit, but there was still some scraping. After that I basically just took it apart and put it back together about 10 times and now it's fine.
