brass oil filter crush ring

I ordered some M1 oil filters from Joe, but I noticed that they did not come with a brass crush ring. What gives and how do I get these crush rings? would the local oil change shop have them lying around?

Most oil change places don't actually replace them, because they're a bit of a pain to remove. Local auto stores should have them. I never used to replace them when I first bought the car. Now I'm a fanatic. Didn't seem to leak before, but it's one of those things that should be done, like replacing suspension nuts after the first use. I'm sure there's enough of a reason.

When I got my last load of filters from Joe, I forgot to order the crush washers. Couldn't find anything but nylon washers about.

Call Joe and get overnight if you have to.

Sounds like your auto stores could use a hint. The NAPA and Pep Boys near me carry crush washers, in plastic bins behind the counter, near the o-ring bins.

I use Ford copper crush washers with a center rubber seal which conforms to the oil pan area around the threads... Works great, hard to come by
