Post

Greetings. I’m new to the forum and contemplating purchasing a G37S Coupe 6spd. I had a question about the redesign schedule for the G.

I’ve noticed after doing some research online that the brand new IPL G37S Convertible (official news release from Infiniti just last week) is set to launch in late 2012 as a 2013 model.

With the current G (sedan) released in 2007, that would be a 7 year model span. Do you guys feel that the release of the new G IPL Convertible means the G redesign will be pushed back to 2014 model year?? …Or 2013?

These are unusual times and with the economic financial turmoil throughout the world as well as the recent tsunami in Japan (I still can’t get those pictures of all those Nissan/Infiniti cars destroyed at their ports by the tsunami out of my head), it does make sense to push back the cost of releasing new models for financial concerns to save money.

I currently own a Lexus IS350 (for 3+ years) and have been very active on the Clublexus.com forums. On Clublexus, there always seems to be a thread about when the redesign of the new IS will be. Many thought MY 2011 as the first gen IS went from 01-05 (5 year span in the US), but when that time passed, ppl thought 2012. But now, pretty solid evidence points towards late 2012 as a 2013 model. That would mean the current Lexus IS would have a 7 year lifespan. Some do say however since the IS was released in Japan in late 1998 as a 1999 model, this makes sense to the current 7 year cycle for the next IS (99-05 for the first gen). Also, the current IS has gone through a refresh in 09, then ANOTHER somewhat significant refresh in 2011.

However, I have noticed though in the past that some car manufacturers (like BMW & Audi) will leave their convertible model for one final year during the same year a new model is released. For example, the BMW 3 Series & Audi A4 will have their previous gen convertibles out for one last year, while the redesigned sedan is newly released that same year. However, on the other hand, the IPL G Convertible is a brand new model for 2013, while the Audi and BMW convertible models were released a few years earlier.

I do understand though that the the previous G (sedan) was on a 4 year cycle (03-06), but with all evidence pointing to the same current model for next year (2012 MY), the schedule would now be 6 years for the sedan (07-12). I also do understand Infiniti did have the coupe out for a final year in 2007 while the new redesigned sedan was released that same year. So does that mean the sedan will be 2013, while the coupe is 2014 (which corroborates the release of the IPL G Coupe Convertible for 2013)?

Or do you think they'll do something entirely different to stretch the current model out as much as possible like Lexus is doing with the IS?

Anyways, I’m sorry for being so very long-winded. I just don’t want to be in a situation where I’ve just committed a great deal of money on a car only to have a new model out less than one year later.

What do you fine people in the G forums think?

Thanks!

Vert is usually a year later than the coupe, as per the 370z release in '09 and the vert redesign in '10. New G will be released in 2012 as a 2013. Anything else is up for grabs.

Also, with the BMW 3 Series scheduled for a redesign for the 2013 MY (released sometime in 2012) AND the brand new Lexus IS ALSO to be released during that same time, do you think that Infiniti will release their newly redesigned G in the same year as the BMW & Lexus??

Is that wise on their part?

It's their 2 closest competitors for the same class of vehicle. I don't think I ever recall 3 brand new redesigned models (in the same class) all released in the same year.

I also find it hard to believe with the Lexus IS and BMW 3 series on schedule for a 7 year cycle redesign (2006-2012) and if Infniti's redesign is the 2013 model year as well, then that would mean a 6 year cycle (2007-2012) for the G. I'm sure Infiniti wants that prestige factor like Lexus and BMW.

-On a side note, I'm feelin the new 3 series!!!!

i was able to buy my 2010 knowing i brought my G37 in a refresh year.

05 was a interior refresh year, 07 was interior & exterior refresh year, 08 new engine & transmission, 2010 interior refresh year & small exterior changes in front and back, 2011 new vert and IPL models...

based on that i was real comfortable buying a 2010 model as i dont expect any major changes to the G til 2013 at least...
