Just curious Stan... did you fill up shortly after leaving the dealer? My '04 had been fine up until just a short time ago, when I filled up, and apparently didn't click the gas cap enough times to ensure a good seal. My 'Service Engine Soon' light came on as well. I reset it, filled up again, and made sure to click the cap 3 or 4 times... the light hasn't come on since.stangogh wrote:Just got my brand new G35 coupe with sports package and stickshift, love the performance and looks....But the day after I get the car the service engine light comes on! Hasn't gone away. Anyone else have this problem? Is it common?
Neither Joe... there is a procedure that uses the gas pedal and the ignition...joe603 wrote:DAMN! good call Will! I forgot about that...I always click that thing like 6 times.
To reset, did you unplug the battery or have the dealer do it?
You were depressing the clutch? Was that to do the reset? The process requires you depress the GAS pedal... and the noise?? Did you have the car RUNNING at the time? The car is not supposed to be running... just the ignition in the 'ON' position. At this point I have to defer to Joe... you should have the dealer handle it.stangogh wrote:I tried the reset technique, and it didn't seem to work. When I was fully depressing the clutch for a while the light didn't come on....just made a really loud noise that woke up all my neighbors. I've also screwed in the gas cap to hear 10 clicks...
infinititech1, how did I plug in the o2 sensor??? Big Will, any idea why the light wouldn't start blinking during the process? Is it different with the 6mt transmission than the automatic?
This sucks cause I totally love the car but work an 11 hour day and have to find time to take it to the service department.
Great to be a member of this community, thanks for the welcome and the help guys!
Would that be helpful without knowing what the codes mean Dennis? Is there a place online that has a list of what the codes mean?Q45tech wrote:Every 1996 and later car owner should have a OBD2 scan tool to read codes and reset those as appropriate! The $50-$100 expenditure will be useful in every car
There are multi hundreds of codes possible [and delineated].
Dude I did it with the gas on...haha I feel like an idiot, especially since I probably somewhat screwed up the brand new engine! At least it's a lease though...I'll try again tonight when I get home from workBigWill wrote:

I feel you on the work thing. Maybe you could have a friend take the car in for you? Or maybe have AAA tow it in?
I am very glad to hear that Stan. Glad to be of help too... but now, cinch down that gas cap, and if the light comes back on, I would definitely take it into the dealer.stangogh wrote:Just tried it again the right way and it worked! Thanks BigWill!!
