Is there anything special to know about doing the brakes on this car (07 M35x)?

I did all of my own brakes on my two Maxima's prior to this car, but when I first got this car I had the Brake Motive kit installed by the local chain shop (Monroe).

I guess what I need to know the most is how the cylinder is pushed in on the caliper on this car...do you just push with a vice or do you have to push and twist like on the Maxima (needed special brake tools to do that)? The front on the Maxima you just pushed in, back had to twist and push.

I'm doing all four corners at the same time.

My Brake Motive kit has lasted 40,000 miles with pretty aggressive driving in the summer months (I push this car on the back country roads) and only has slight vibration after all of the abuse they've taken. Could probably just resurface them and get new pads, but for the price of the entire kit new...no sense, just gonna replace. DEFINITELY recommend this kit to anyone looking for brakes.

Nope. Nothing special. I never used a vice. I always rent a caliper compression tool from a local autozone. It's a simple remove and install.

Hi There Ilya;

This is a straight forward re and re. I would watch the rear caliper pins. These are very soft bolts- the heads round over easily. I would buy a complete set for both rears and have them handy just in case.

When I did mine I had a problem with the left rear caliper. The pin boot was pinched and caused the grease to leak out. This caused the rear caliper to seize and kill my rotor.

Lots of grease on the pins and extra pins are a must.

Other than that very easy. Bye the way - bleed the brake fluid- mine was black.

Good luck

I've only done the brakes once on this car, and due to time constraints, it was done by a local brake/muffler shop (Monroe). This time I have the time and will be doing it myself, as I have done for years. I don't pay mechanics generally...have my own lift, tools, and heated garage (thanks Pop!). It's nice to be able to do my own oil change in 10 minutes. lol.

Thanks folks, I figured it was easy just wanted to make sure. And yes, I did the c-clamp (sorry, didn't mean vice in my post) method on the front calipers of the Maxima. But I used a small piece of plywood, not the old brake pad.

Yes, I always bleed the brakes after such a job and always grease the pins as well as add a touch of anti-seize on everything. Never hurts.

When Monroe did it? Yes. Why wouldn't it? lol.

I haven't received the replacements yet, I probably won't be doing the current job for another couple weeks. Going to do oil, wipers, some other stuff all in one day.
