Brakes

Hey, im putting an sr20det swap in my 240 next week. someone i work with was telling me that i need to upgrade the brakes on the car or it wont really stop... is this true or is he full of s***? if i do need to upgrade my brakes what are good brakes to go with?

put it this way, you will still have the same braking force that you have now and when you swap in the sr20, so if you feel comfortable with what you have then stick with it just note that you'd be able to drive faster thus braking is an essential, but i would recomend that you do swap something with more braking force. u have a 90 240 correct well the 89 and 90 have the smaller brakes while the 91+ have the slightly bigger ones. if you notice your front rotors and rear rotors are the same.bigger brakes = more braking force and less fade better ventilation aswell.i went with the 300zx brakes but you have other options as the q45 aswell for bigger brakes.

azienbabyboi, you should look into it more just in case, but I believe the larger brakes you refer to are found on the 95+ (s14), since 91-94 are still the same chassis. I don't remember the s14 brakes being compatible with s13 either...but again look into it some more.

vroooom, the SR swap will allow you to accelerate faster, but that doesn't necessarily mean you will need to brake faster under normal driving conditions. I can see why someone would upgrade brakes in a racing scenerio or when the actual weight / suspension on the car has been altered.

I think your coworker is on the assumption you'll probably be driving way faster than you normally would without the SR, so you'll need to stop faster than you normally would as well, thus warranting a brake upgrade.

Just remember brakes aren't everything - a tire upgrade or suspension tweak can have better results than simply upgrading your brakes alone.
