My rear discs on my '89 coupe have started to squeak badly. I inquired at Strauss where I usually get my "everywhere grays" and they said that to change the rear brakes, there is a special key Nissan has installed to prevent owners from changing the brakes themselves and having to take it to a stealership. I have changed my front brakes twice already with no problems but just as a heads up, is there any difference at all to changing the rears ? Will I have to acquire this "special key" from Nissan ?

Yes you need a "special" key but no you dont have to go to a nissan dealership to have them changed.

thats what you need, a local auto part store should sell it.

Ok that looks way way different from using a C clamp and forcing the piston in. Not to be a bother but can you explain how that works ? Thanks in advance.

There are groves on the piston on the rear caliper which that goes into, you take a ratchet and put it on it. You use hte ratchet to turn the piston back in, its a pain sometimes tho.

You can use pliers if you want to. But you'll be better of buying that ''key''

yep, used needle nose pliers here too, you need them to screw the piston back into the caliper so you can put the new pads in.

No C-Clamp required, huh ? How do I know how far to twist it before I push the piston in too much and ruin the caliper ?

I just went till the piston was like flush with the caliper, so you get enough clearance to put in the new pads.

The C-clamp is just used on the front caliper which has a push-type piston whereas the rear has a screw-type piston.
