My cousin ended up getting the J30t my aunt had. I was hoping to grab it as a daily but having had a kid, he needed another sedan to go with his wifes so it is now his.

Anyway, he emailed me and asked if I could do the brakes on it if he got the parts. I said sure no problem and will probably do them next weekend.

I've done the brakes on my car awhile back and it was fairly easy and I've helped do them a lot on other cars but this one isn't in the best of chape so I am afraid that I going to take off a wheel and see rotors rusted to the hub or a stripped bolt that holds them in place.

Any advice or links on doing this? Should be fairly easy I hope. I told him two or three hours to do all four courners.

Thanks!

It's very easy, 2 hours at most. mostly due to unbolting the wheel and putting it back on.

They are all disc breaks so no spec equipment is required. take the wheel of, unscrew one bolt pull the calipers whatever it's called holding the pads, take th pads out clean the mounting hardware, put everything back in reverse order.

It cannot be easier.

Also as a hint, find a wire 1 ft long to hold the calipers whatever it's called in the upfront position while you are changing the pads. I usually fixed it to spring.

For brake hardware stick to either OEM rotors or high end aftermarket (i.e. Brembo). Generic rotors warp very quickly. The J is a very heavy car. As for pads, get a ceramic or semi ceramic pads. They last the longest and deliver great stopping performance.
