Today driving around in ice and snow I hit the brakes in my 2000 Max. and the peddle starting vibrating and I heard a funny noise. I know that the peddle is supposed to pulse somewhat with the ABS but There was a noise, not sure if it was from the driver side front brake or under the hood but it sounded like tapping on a piece of sheet metal and only when I got down on it hard and started to slide. Never heard this b4 and freeked me out a little.

Assuming the brake pads are within limits, most likely, sound (buzzing/whirring) you are hearing is coming from the ABS actuator, driver side and close to the firewall. In most cases, the ABS light should also come on. The most likely cause is the ABS Relay Unit. But it is recommended to perform the Built-In Diagnostic to isolate the problem - could be due to Relay Unit, ABS Motor, Actuator Solenoid Valves, Wheel Sensors (4 ea), etc. All you need is a jumper wire connected to Pin 8 of the Data Link Connector and chassis ground. Refer to the link below:

Pages BR-41 & 48 shows the component location and basic description. Page BR-48 tells you how to perform the built-in diagnostic; page BR-49 on how to read the code; and page BR-61 on how to identify the faulty component and corresponding reference page.
