my friend and i just replaced the brake light sensor knob with a cut down bolt from the rear seat belt bracket. we took it out for a spin, we drove well for a mile or two and suddenly the car started to feel like the transmission was bogging down. the brake pedal we really stiff and the car wouldn't move and inch without me pumping the e-brake about 15-20 times before i tried to move it. i slowed to an abrupt stop and we let the car sit.

it had overheated, once it cooled off and we added coolant, the car drove fine back to my place. i went out a couple of days ago to check it, and the brakes were locked up. i tried pumping the e-brake again, no go.

we recently added a bit of brake fluid (DOT 3). its not above the max fill line.

thing is, we haven't tried bleeding the system or anything yet, but, i searched and found one solution (cracked vaccum hose/bad brake booster). anyway, i don't have internet at my apartment, so i'm trying to find all the possible causes i can before i get cut off of the internet for a week again.

1989 240sx, fast back se, stock brake system. no abs or anything.

thanks guys.

well, crack all 4 bleed screws to unlock them...then find out why the fluid is refusing to return to the master cylinder. Did that bolt have something to do with it?

i don't think the bolt would have anything to do with it, its sitting flush on the tap like the rubber button that pushes down the brake light sensor.

other guys on here have used a bolt with no problems.

i haven't had a chance to look at it just yet, but when i can i'll keep ya posted.
