ok so i just finished up my sr20det project 240. works great and i have no problems with the engine.my brakes completely locked up on me today and here are the symptoms- its done it 3 times, the other two i just took off the MC cap and it stopped doing it and could drive it all day-pedal is super stiff all the time- when pushing the brake in, it causes the idle to drop from 800 to ~450-500 RPMS.

so what do you guys think? im guessing a bad vaccum line cause the idle drops. but then maybe the brake booster isnt bled well enough, cause the pedal is so hard to push?Im affraid to drive this damn car and its at the shop right now and cant get it home.

What do you mean by completely locked up?

You mean they aren't braking? or are you screeching tires all the time?

What do you mean by super stiff and hard to push? Do you mean the pedal has almost no play? or do you mean you can push it to wherever it was before but the car doesn't stop any faster no matter how much you push it?

To know what happened... what did you do on the brakes when doing ur sr project? Did you remove the brake lines? or do something else? If you removed the brake lines, did you bleed the system properly?

Did you remove the pcv connected to the brake booster line or reversed it?

Other than that, check for vacuum leaks w/ teh brake booster... i.e. just turn on the car and let it idle, then press the brake pedal and see if you can hear air leaking from the master cylinder or your idle dropping. If it drops it consistently, your brake booster is probably f'ed.

by completely locked up, all 4 of them are gripping so hard i couldnt take it out of first cause i needed the torque just to move the car. when i would stop the brakes were smoking big time. its like driving with the e-brake on all 4 tires.the booster is actually from the JDM unit off my clip. when i got the car i didnt have a brake booster, but i had a MC. also vaccum lines are off of junk yard cars and i did make sure that the pcv functioned but ill try pulling it off and checking it. the pedal is stiff all the time, it has no play at all, and i barely have to push it in about 1/2 an inch to get the car to stop when they arent locked up. the weird thing is that this happens after driving the car for about 3 minutes, then they lock up, and then they will stop locking up like that. maybe i need to bleed the brake booster, i didnt do the bench bleeding cause i was told it gets bled when you do the rest of the system.

Hmnmm, ok, so now we know that this wasn't something "that was working b4" and just stopped after since it's off your clip.

Doesn't sound like a broken brake booster, since if that's broke, you wouldn't be able to stop at all very quickly.

You could be having multiple problems, so let's try to solve one thing @ a time.

One thing is, if you didn't adjust the brake booster rod correctly (could be too far out), the brake is always slightly engaged & you won't be able to bleed the system correctly either. That's what it sounds like to me @ this point.
