Okay idk what the hell happened here. I've been working on the Q for a few weeks now and i took her for a spin which i do every week. Came back and i noticed the brake lights were stuck on! Car does not need to be started nor the key even in the ignition. The lights are ON. Pulled the fuse and there off. But put it back in and there right back on. Im thinking some sort of switch by the pedal or relay or something? i took the cover off where the pedal is located but that is one big hassle laying under that wheel. Anyone have experience with this issue or could have a resolution?

There are two switches under there - one for the cruise control and one for the brake pedal. If I recall correctly, the brake pedal switch is blue - but check the FSM to be sure.

FSM calls it a "STOP LAMP SWITCH" which is to the right of the ASCD cancel switch, if im looking at the right page BR-7 in the FSM, on scottsdales website it lists it as like 10.19. probable the cheapest part ever for a Q?? Never had one fail with lights staying on in all the cars ive ever owned.

The one on my old Q failed open, but I guess it's only going to fail one way or the other :biggrin: The telltale sign was a popping noise in the radio when I would hit the brakes... must have been arcing in there.

Hope these crappy pictures help, hard to take pictures in the position that the brake and ASCD* cancel switches are in.

ASCD=Cruise control.

Awaiting delivery of said "stop lamp switch" as we speak. Like wow i've had a hell of alot of trouble starting it this week i have no clue why. Got it running and it stalled on me about 5 minutes in but it started right back up again. I think its time for some new plugs, the ones in there are only like 3 years old though.

Well, i finally got down to the shop and got under there. The switch that is already in there works fine. I pressed it in and had someone look at the lights. Just that the little green translucent "nipple" is half gone on both the stop switch and the ASCD cancel switch. Theres my problem. My dumba** should have checked that before i even ordered the switch. Oh well i got a spare for 10 bucks. Anyone have a code or know if even they sell the said "nipples" as a part? i got a dime taped in there so the lights arent stuck on. Oh and for a full size car, even with the seat all the way back and the wheel up, that is a tight squeeze and a real "fun" job

That turned out to be the problem. Good call. I just checked mine and they're both intact. I was hoping one would be missing to help explain why my cruise control doesn't work.

Why thank you. I should have posted the part number last year. They come in transparent green or clear!!! Agree with the sig on the french....... If you ever hire a french person you MUST hire a Mexican to pick up the slack!
