I have an S14 and my brakes are doin something that i have never seen before. they are making thick chunks of brake dust. i have a lot more obvious brake dust on the rear than the front. shouldnt it be the other way around.

i had also just change my pads cause of normal wear, and that was the first time that i had encountered calipers like that, for a few minutes i thought my piston had frozen, but i figured it out. is there suppose to be some sort of maximum or minimum to screw the piston in when installing the new pads? cause my brakes are starting to squeak and STILL make thick brake dust on rear wheels. is there something about these rear brakes that i should know.

just a little of what happens...

my breaks ware unevenly(rear driver inside pad was down to the metal)

after changing pads, i screwed the piston flush.

still squeaks after the car sits for a little(as if it was hitting the wear tab), but, when i press the brakes for a while while in motion, it seems as if it warms up and does squeak ONLY once in a while..

is there anything that i am missing.

So you recently changed all four brake pads? Are all of the shims in the same place as when you took them off?

I dont think there is a "maximum" as long as you dont tear the little boot. And is your shield at all bent?

Make sure that one of the piston groves lines up with the notch in the back of the brake pad. I usually screw the piston down enough to fit around the new pads. I have not heard of a max or min turns when compressing the piston. It is possibel to unscrew the piston to much to the point where it comes out of its's cylinder. I did it ounce and had to blead my brakes.

Another thing to consider is adjusting your e-brake cable. On my s14 I used to have to change rear pads like every six months, but I loosened up the e-brake cable and that helped. I also had more brake dust on the driver rear until I did that.

As far as the squeking, did you use that anti-squeek stuff on the shims?

yes i did line up the little nipple with the grooves in the piston, but i did not think to loosen my ebrake line, i will make sure that i do that when i change my brakes and rotors. oh, and i did not use the anti sqeak stuff, hmmm, i think that might be the problem, i forgot. thanks for the info.

just changed the rear but yes, i did use all the same shims, and in their right place. and if my shield was bent wouldnt it make noise all the time, it only makes noise when i first drive the car, so what i do is when i start driving i press the brakes while accelerating and then it goes away. weird. but it works
