I think that my brakes are draging because the emergance brake light only goes off sometimes while driving and only for a little while then it turns back on. i've all ready loosened the nut on the brake handle until the cable was slack and its still on.

Is ther a way i can adjust my brakes giving more space between the brake rotor and the brake pad so they don't drag because when i looked at the brakes i saw no space between the brake pads and the rotor.

P.S Maybe this is happening because i don't have anti lock brakes. Also my car is a 1990 180sx ca18det.

Are you getting a squeal when you go in reverse? The rear calipers can be troublesome to put back together, i.e. to get the alignment pins right. If you've had the pads/rotors replaced recently that may be your culprit.

Humm my parking brake light was lit one time because brake oil level was low .. maybe its because of that. Its normal that the pad are really close to the rotor.. lift your car and turn the wheel with your hand to see if you feel some resistance .. there should be some.. if you have trouble to turn it there a problem for sure

the ebrake sensor only sences the handle being lifted, hs nothing to do with the actual brakes themself, I have heard things about the light also being used for low brake fluid like some one else here said, Have you checked to make sure you have brake fluid?(remember that the fluid goes down alittle as brakes wear, then will go back up when you put new pads in so if you refill dont put in to much or it will overflow later)

Had this problem when I bought my 92 about 3 years ago. My brakes would drag bad when reversing and slightly when driving, and Brake light stayed on constantly

There is a contact switch for the E-brake handle near the E-brake cable adjust bolt. Make sure that has not been pushed out of the way (it rotates). Position so it contacts when the handle goes all the way down.

Also take a look at the inboard side of your rear calipers where the E-brake cable connects and make sure the release spring is not busted/rusted. I had to replace my rear calipers to fix the brake drag(fairly cheap about $60 each). But at the same time I got goodridge SS lines, Brembo cross drilled/slotted rotors, and metal master pads. Stops like a champ now, especially without ABS.

Good luck
