I did a complete brake job on my q today but i can't seem to figure out how to kill the on dash warning message. I tried pulling the negative to no avail. I thought i when away by itself if the sensor was no longer in contact. Do i have something wrong or did i miss something? The brakes work great!

The sensor is a closed loop; put the sensor harness back on, and then cut the wires and tie them together.

If you cut the wires, won't that prevent you from using the sensor again? Is there another way to kill the warning light?

If the sensor was tripped anyway, it's defective. If you didn't use OEM parts they probably didn't come with new sensors. I'd cut the tripped sensor wires on the "pad side" of the connector, twist the wires together with a wire nut, and then plug it back in to the harness that goes to the ECU. That should take care of the warning message.

The wire Daedalus is talking about is the sensor wire for the RH side sensors. One sensor for the front and a second for the rear. The front has a 2 wire small black plastic plug in type connector (into the caliper assembly) that is almost square. Cut the 2 wires going into the sensor and tape them together. Don't cut the wiring harness or anything inside the car. New sensors come with factory pad kits. On the rear, the sensor mounts directly into the rear brake pad. There is a plug in connector that is attached about 18 inches towards the center of the car. Disconnect the plug, and stick a small wire into the 2 female end connector. Tape it up and you are all set.

just curious, how long did it take to do the brakes on all 4 corners. Im planning on doing full brakes on my J30 this weekend, was wondering on how much time to reserve for it!

if you're not bleeding the system and there's no "snags" it could be done in under an hour. There's no sensors on the J like there is on the Q. Takes me longer because I'm real picky. I clean the calipers and wheel well. Clean the ABS sensors, and bleed fluid.

I had my pads replaced at midas yesterday with aftermarket pads. They came with sensors. The brakes work great, but the tech does not know how to disconnect the sensors.

Is there a way to reset the bake warn sensor so that it continues to monitor the wear of my pads?

Aftermarket pads rarely come with sensors. Without the sensor, the system can't monitor pad wear. Some rear pads come with the bracket for the sensor, so if the old sensor wasn't tripped then you can put it in the aftermarket pad...

If the worn message is still on the dash, you need to short out the two pins in the sensor connection. The best way to do this is cut the leads leaving the sensor connector (from sensor to the end that plugs in to the harness) and short them out. The warning light goes away then. Then you just have to monitor the pads with your 4K tire rotations.
