So my brakes have been getting progressively worse yesterday was so bad I changed the pads today and its still the same. I can step on the break on the highway and just keep going. The car wont slow down until I push the pedal to the floor. Even then the bite is even strong enough to bring the car to dead stop. This Q is so nice but..

I'm wondering if your brake master cylinder is worn out (which allows brake fluid to leak around the cylinder seals).

In the engine compartment, does the area below the master cylinder or vacuum assist booster look wet or oily?

Can you see any brake fluid inside the vehicle, on the floorboard below the brake pedal pushrod?

If so, you need to replace the brake master cylinder.

So I did the pads Tuesday afternoon. Today (Friday) the brake pedal feels like it's starting to firm up. It's not perfect, but certainly more firm feeling then before.

What's the color of the brake fluid in the reservoir?
Did you notice a wetness around any of the pistons on the callipers?
Was there any uneven pad wear like a caliper or calipers aren't working?

In a brand new or taken care of brake hydraulic system the pads will only affect stopping distance and bight of the brakes not necessary pedal travel. Like skibane said you should check for any leaks in the brake system. When the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor and or doesn't feel firm enough then more than likely its a hydraulic problem. Bad fluid will cause a spongy pedal while a leak or air in the system will cause long pedal travel. I would say its worth a shot of changing the fluid, if you can change the pads then you should be able to do a fluid change. It could be one of these problems or multiple its hard to tell without details and me not driving it.
