My break worn light came on so now I am getting all new brakes around. I think the price I'm paying includes turning the rotors. Is $320+tax a good deal? Thats including parts and labor. They are also going to check my cat heat shields for the rattling noise.

What pads are they using?OEMHawkAlbany?

Are they replacing the wear sensors?Even the <$20 (from Autozone) an axle Albany brand pads include them.

Are they replacing the shims?Re-using them?Or just leaving them off altogether?

Lots of missing information to know for sure if that's a good price.

Parts alone from Joe arePad F&R ~$125Shim kits F&R ~25

So, figure about $165 for parts from Joe, then add in your labor rate and local rotor turning charges??

Dealership:OEM Front pads = $100OEM Rear pads = $100

So if you are sure your getting the rotors turned I think thats a pretty good deal!

If your rotors are not being turned... That is still a reasonable price.

Yes, the rotors are being turned. They originally quoted me $160 for fronts with rotors being turned. They are also replacing the sensors. When they called me they said both front and back need done and they are just waiting for the parts. They said the car should be done by 5:30 or 6 p.m. today.

I remember one place charging $99 for fronts, but I am sure that did not include all the other parts besides pads. I have heard much higher cost for all brakes being done. I am thinking that I will end up paying about $360 with tax and such. I figure this should last me a good while. I still need to do my CEL, but with the brake light on, I assumed this would be one more reason it wouldn't pass smog, so now that it will be off and no other light is on, I can do the ECU this weekend and get her smogged before the end of the month.

Might want to re-check joes price for the shimkits-last time I got a set from him, they were around $50-55 for EACH axle!!!! So total would be closer to $225-230 for all pads/shims for all 4 wheels.

Check all rubber caliper pinboots....mine were cracked/dryrotted/toast,and you must hunt them down from the aftermarket{search old posts of mine if you need source of these,as they are not easy to obtain,especially the rears}

I stand corrected. In part, it was a typo, my records show $52 (not the $25 I typed), and apparently that was for only 1 axle??

These are from old Thread

tangalora wrote:To be more complete, I should take the time to note Joe's brake pads also come with the brake-wear sensors (presumably one per axle on the passenger side only).

Also, I gave the local dealership a chance, but at $347.50 (with tax), even though everything was in stock & they are open on Saturdays, this dealership leaned a hundred bucks too far on the wrong side of the equation:Front pads & sensor $95.96 plust taxRear pads & sensor $80.98 plus taxFront & rear hardware kits $71.66 each plus tax

OK, cool, so the price I am paying is about the same. These guys I go to normally charge me for only one hour labor no matter how many hours they work on my car, which is cool. I like using them. When I dropped my car off, I was laughing with them about the first car I ever took to them. My 1990 Continental. It was super bad with huge problems, but I purchased that car for $500 used not running and ran that thing into the ground for 1.5 years before it even seen a mechanic. It is the one car I miss but don't wish to have ever again, even mint.
