Hey guys,

2006 M35x, need new rear brake calibers, pad and rotor for drivers side. I know seems weird that only one side worn down, it snuck up on me. Just purchased the car from a BMW dealership a month and half ago. Feel like they should have noticed the pads almost out and replaced, but what can I do now?! First thing thats gone wrong since I've had it.

Before I spend hours searching the net for these, any suggestions? Anything to stay away from? Currently have the slotted and drilled rotors, can I replace with high end rotors but not slotted and drilled? I use my M for daily driver around DC/Northern VA, not racing. I feel like I should keep it with performance parts, but does it make that much of difference? Trying to keep in a budget, but don't want to risk de-valuing the car. Any suggestions for brake pads? Heard ceramics get hotter and warp the rotors faster, so a metallic/ceramic blend is best. I know you get what you pay for, so not trying to go cheap, but don't need super expensive racing brakes.

Thanks guys!

Congrats and your car and welcome to Nico!
This seems to be a hot topic and is always being brought up. Most of all the M owners in this forum are using the "Brakemotive" kit from Ebay.
They offer a complete set of 2 Front, 2 Rear Rotors (drilled/slotted) + 8 ceramic pads shipped to your door for $180.00. This set is the best bang for your buck and has been very reliable. Unfortunately, this complete set is out of stock at the moment but they do offer just the fronts or rears for under $100.00. Please contact Ebay seller Brakemotive76 for status, some members said the complete kit would be available in about a month or so. Also, you could search the topic Brakemotive for more feedback from members here.
I have it on my M and it' still great, I will be getting another set one available, they sell like hot cakes!

Thanks! Yeah, I've been searching as well. I've seen the reviews on the Brakemotive, sounds awesome. Don't know if I can wait a month though... The car is not driveable at this point, metal scrapping noise. It really just snuck up on me, no sign they were going bad. Just started up one morning and heard scrapping. Maybe I can get just the backs replaced now.

Forgot to mention, I also need a new caliber. Any suggestions appreciated. Autozone has re-manufactured ones available. Again, don't want cheap, but are all calibers created equal?

I plan to do both rears or all four if I can get ahold of that 4 pack. So if there are nice calibers I can put on so I don't have to replace them again, let me know. Debating to wait for the 4 pack or not. Its not critical that I get this car on the road right away, I have a backup truck. But I will miss driving the M...

I've used remanufactured calipers on several cars and never had any issues with the exception that sometimes they seem to turn rusty/discolor faster. They are generally just rebuilt OEM ones. I wouldn't be afraid to use them, especially on the rear as most of the braking force is generated by the front brakes anyway. Just remember to bleed the system after you change the caliper.

You should try to ask the OP on the thread here, he is parting couple Ms, ask him if he got caliper for you.

Sweet, thanks. posted their to see.

Whats the life expectancy on the brakemotives? You said you are about to get another set, when did you install the last set? Just curious. Found these: http://www.brakeworld.com/Product/Produ ... ake-rotors about twice as much total, but Lifetime Warranty, says they don't rust. And you get a pick from a variety of colors... :)

So if you buy brakemotives every so many miles, then it may be worth getting these if they last longer. I drive a lot of highway miles, probably about 15-20K a year. There's 70K miles on the car now, I would assume these are the original rotors, don't have all the service reports. So in about 3-4 years I would need new ones again if I get stock rotors.

I am not sure how long they last, I knew some members are on their 2nd sets even 3rd possibly, hopefully they'll chime in.
I got my M last year with 49K and I installed the Brakemotive at 55K and about to hit 62K. When I said that I will be getting another set (not because the ones I have now need to change) but to have because they are hot item and this is the first time I seen them sold out. The link you posted looks pretty cool but for their price (front & rear) you can get 2 sets of Brakemotive including 8 pads. Maybe you can try them out and give all of us some feedback :dblthumb: as most of use are pretty happy with Brakemotive :bigthumb:
Good luck and hope you get a problem resolved soon.

OP may want to look at this recent thread:
post6575479.html?hilit=brakes#p6575479

I was one of the original members who looked into this kit and have endorsed their use for our Ms. Most (I think except for one or two members) have been pretty happy with the quality and performance, especially for the money.

I had my first kit on for about 45k miles - just needed to replace the front pads because they were thin.
However, I replaced everything because I painted the calipers/rotor hats and I just like the idea of having everything BRAND NEW!! :naughty:

Thanks. The only problem with the kit is its not available right now. And I sent a message to Brakemotive76 at ebay, and only got a response of "we don't have any rear brake sets right now." And no 4 rotor sets available either.

Think I'll buy a cheap/decent rotor for now, then wait for this set to come available and I can replace all 4 eventually. Then'll I have a spare back up rotor.

Check out Black Hart on ebay, I have them on my M. I ordered a set yesterday for another M member, I'm about to place another order for someone else that has an Altima.

They have them in black, gold & silver

Don't forget to order the stickers for the calipers:

Brakemotives from eBay are the best bang for the buck. I have 40k on all four wheels and still going strong! If they of of such right now then get something cheap OEM from like advanced auto parts. But, buy them in pairs! Replace both rear and/or fronts...not just one side...

I'm pushing up on 20k with my Brakemotive drilled slotted rotors and pads that came with them - no problems at all! just break them in correctly, and most definitely fix the calipers first because if they are locking up you don't want to overheat breaks! My rear calipers froze up too, had to replace them. Cost approx. $145 a piece for the each caliper unit. It came with pads so they (STS) installed the new pads too but there was still life in the ones from brakemotive! Best bang for the buck hands down...

Here is the link. Apparently they are no longer on backorder and they are now $20 off reg price. These fit 2006 through 2009 M35 and M45 - including the X models.

Just a heads-up. I noticed that Brakemotive now has the M35 / M45 kits back in stock and at reduced price. These fit 2006 - 2010 M35 and M45 models. There are two videos on the page as well.

I have to change my rear right caliper now too. Should I change both? I was told the one in the rear on the left was okay.

Rebuild the original caliper. Go to any nissan dealer and grab the new seals and rebuild. Then reverse bleed http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FB8kzUEqK3U

You can do the brakes yourself, its really not hard. I did my rear pads and it takes about 30 mins(if that). I put the brakemotive set on my wife Fx35 first and she liked them. I ordered a set for the front and had my friend put them on(I couldn't find the time to do them)and he charged me 40 bucks.

In FL I paid about $150 I believe. Not bad when you consider you're getting 4 new rotors + 4 new brake pads. You can't get a front / rear brake job anywhere for $300 ... AND you get 4 new rotors as well !
