Hello,

I just had a friend install front and rear Brakemotive kit with 2 new front wheel hubs in my 07 m35x. He has his own shop, and has always done great work for me. My question is that my new brakes are scrapping a little. Is this normal during the break-in phase with Brakemotive?? Just wanted to check before I bring it back to him.

Thanks,

Pat

I installed my first set over 3 years ago and they've never made a scraping sound. I have my next set in the garage, waiting for me to get around to installing them. I'm not a brake expert, so I'm not sure what would cause that sound.

Squealing a little? - yes. Scraping sound - no.
I've done 2 sets of Brakemotive rotors and pads on my '06 M45.
by no means an expert, but one of my friends showed me how to do it - easy peasy, even without a lift or air tools.

Need to make sure you bed in your pads - generally about (5-10 stops from about 50 mph to almost stopping, but NOT stopping)...you can search the threads on here for some more detailed steps if you want

Scraping:
1. did he use the OEM pads, aftermarket, or the Brakemotive pad...reason I ask is that some certain types of pads need the shims, the Brakemotive kit has the shims already on the pad itself.

2. sare the pads sitting right? I've sometimes noticed that the pads can sometimes shift a little as you are putting the caliper back on.

3. Did he grease the caliper pins? might have a sticky caliper.

^^^ My guess is with the age of the car it is probably a sticky caliper too.

yes, he used the brakemotive pads also. The pads look like they are sitting properly.

To clarify, its more of a rubbing sound than a scraping sound. What is the cure for a sticky caliper? Remove the caliper and grease the pin??

hopefully it's something as easy as that - sometimes the caliper pins get dirty or rusted

or could be a problem with the piston itself, or a problem with the brake line

is it both sides? or just one side?
