Brake vibration?

Hello everyone! I'm a new Versa owner and absolutely love my car. I bought it June 30th, a SL CVT and now have 1700 miles on it. It's the best looking car out there. I've been getting great gas milage, my last fill up, #5, was over 26.5 miles- fantastic!

I do have one question and it's regarding my breaks- when I have the breaks pressed, sometimes I can feel a light light vibration. I did not feel it when I test drove it but I did feel it soon after, either that or I did not notice. Has anyone had this experience with your car?

are you slamming on your brakes or just lightly pressing it? if slamming on them, and you have abs, it is probably kicking in. If you are lightly stepping on it and it is vibrating, you should have the dealer check it out, as you may have a warped rotor.

BTW welcome to NicoClub!

Wow- that was fast! Thanks, I feel welcomed.

I always lightly press on my brakes and have never slammed on them.

ABS had crossed my mind which is why I was not sure if it was a problem.

if only lightly pressing, you quite possibly could have warped your rotors. How many miles do you have?

I barely have 1,700. I noticed the vibrations about a week or two after I bought it.

Not being well versed (Versa'd??) in mechanics, how does one warp rotors and what are the consequences besides a shudder?

your problem is very simply...just do what most people do and turn up the music and try to ignore it.

BTW this works for 99% of your car problems.

It would greatly depend on where the vibration is felt. If you do not feel it in the steering wheel your rotors are most likely fine. I have seen warped rotors where the steering wheel doesn't vibrate but it is very rare. If you only feel it in the pedal it is something with either the calipers or more likely the pads have started to come apart. In either case just take it back to the dealer and let them diagnose it under warranty.

I have to disagree with this. I have never felt a steering wheel vibration or wobble with warped rotors.

If you get the vibration in both the wheel and the brake pedal, it's actually possibly a balance or alignment issue, or a tire may be damaged (like cord damage, had that happen too).

Thanks all! Yea, I'm really, really happy with my milage (my old car got 18 or 19!). I knew it would not get 36 or whatever the estimate was on the old antiquated system. It's right on target with the new estimates though.

I'll definately keep watch over the vibration, and if it keeps doing it I will take it to the dealer. BTW, does it have to be the same dealer you bought it at or is the warranty honored at all dealers?

warranty work is honored at ALL Nissan dealers, only incentives that the dealer gave you at your purchase are honored at the dealer where you bought it i.e. 5 free oil changes.
