Okay, I bought a 1994 240 Convertible and the brakes are screwed. We're talking metal to metal. I need some help on what the best brakes to put on would be. We're talking about $200 - $300 to spend for brakes. Help me, please!!

What do you mean by metal to metal? Pads worn out and rotor got messed up? If so, you can just replace the rotors and pads. Nissan installed ABS brake parts for verts, so we already have slightly larger brakes compare to other 240s. Is $400 going to be too much? Q45 brake upgrade is common.

Q45 brakes? Thats 400$ before the 5 lug conversion or redrilling 4 lug holes in the rotors! I'm sure they work but that's a bit ambitious.

Assuming the car is stock nothing ridiculously big is needed, just a decent set of pads and rotors. Remember, abs pads and rotor for the front, and the rears are all the same. Not too expensive and will grip like mad for normal street use. These pads: $120 for allhttp://www.stillen.com/product...&c=BRWith these rotors: $110 for allhttp://www.tirerack.com/brakes...rembo

It's $300 from rockauto.com if you get rebuilt Q45 calipers, Brembo rotors, Wagner Thermoquiet pads, and use the 5% coupon. It's worth the extra money rather than just refreshing the stock units. A machine shop can redrill the rotors for $20 for the pair.

For the rears, if the stock calipers still work well, I'd just get cheap rotors and Wagner Thermoquiet pads - $40 total for all. If you're feeling up to it, you can rebuild the calipers with a kit for next to nothing.

If you've never used Wagner Thermoquiet pads before, they're a really good deal for the money. Built-in shims, never had them squeak, and don't generate much dust.

IMO, the above setup is the best value for a street/DD 240SX.

Driver's side pad was worn out and it looks like whoever had the car before didn't take care of the rotors. They are so thin that they can't even be resurfaced. I figure that I should just go ahead and upgrade to a decent set of brakes while I'm at it. I've got 17" wheels and the brakes show a lot, so I want something that will look good and still give good stopping power. The car is slowly being upgraded, but I haven't done much yet.

Good to see another NC Vert around.

The stock Vert brakes are decent, but if you want something that'll look good behind the wheels, then Q45 or Z32 brakes would be better.

I've never messed with Q45 brakes, anyone know of wheel clearance difference in them and the stock ones? Just making sure her wheels won't hit them.

Q45 brakes clear stock wheels (and wheels of similar offset, of course).

I caved and spent more than expected and went with Brembo slotted rotors and the Hawk pads. It should look good with the 17" wheels. I'll post pics after I get 'em on. Probably after next weekend. Thanks for the help everyone. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions.....
