My passenger side rear wheelwell is emitting this horrible scraping noise that gets much louder when I brake. Is this a worn brake pad?

could be the brake pad is worn all the way down and it is metal to metal. might want to get that looked at, you could damage your rear calipers if it is left for too long.

I just checked it again, there is some fine rusty looking dust sitting on the inside of my wheel directly below the brakes. I looked at the pad and it seems like there's still a good 1/4" of friction material left. There was the backing, and then a layer of something else on it, i assume the friction material. I would try to do this myself but my mom refuses to let me touch my brakes :(Guess I'll have to spend some $$ gettin it looked at.

I have a set of rear calipers I'll sell ya for $50 shipped.

Order a set of pads from Autozone for ~$25

Find a set of rear Brembo rotors on Ebay for ~150

Order some ATE Superblue from us for $32 (for two cans shipped)

Voila, $257 for parts, and labor shouldn't be more than 2 hrs. which is 150 at most.

Lemme know, [email protected]

i really doubt you need all that stuff. i would imagine rotors and pads, and maybe a caliper on the rear right. i did the same thing about 2 months ago, ended up costing me 170 bucks for everything. just go over to a friends house and check em out, im sure you have lied to your parents before.

If you see rust stains, you likely have pads with rivets and you have worn down to the rivets on the backing pad. Either way, get them replaced ASAP.

Well, my parents insist that this gets fixed now so that shop is gonna do it :( $630 if the calipers need to be changed. I tried explaining that I could do it, but they think I'll end up dying if I mess up the brakes. Kinda blows cause I really wanna learn about my car but I can't if I can't ever do anything with it. Bah its their money they're wasting on this crazy brake job.

i didnt realize they were payin for it. in that case, im sure the fronts could use some new z32 stuff too:) the rear brakes are a pretty good place to start. pretty simple and if you do mess up most of the braking is done in the front anyways.

Chances are one of the glide pins is seized and causing uneven wear on one of the pads...even though one part may look fine, the other might be down to the metal. Either way, I doubt you need new calipers.

If you've never worked on your car (or any car) before, but a factory service manual from eBay...it'll guide you step by step through the install of EVERYTHING. As long as you have the tools and can read directions, your parents should trust you and you'll be able to learn a lot of valuable information.

Good luck either way!

I'm workin on gettin an FSM right now, and some more tools. My parents have a strong distrust of brakes due to an accident caused by their friend doing brakes on our car a long time ago...I guess somehow he left one of them really tight so it rubbed constnatly, heating up the wheel until the tire blew, and they didn't notice because they were pulling a trailer for the first time so they assumed that the extra resistance came from it. Lol, whatever, I'll do pads in the future :)
