Hi guys,

I noticed that my Versa occasionally violently shakes when I brake. It's happens maybe 1/10thof the times I'll brake, but when it happens it's bad. And usually it'll happen a few times in a row afer the first time, but then it goes away. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? I'm planning on taking it to the dealership this weekend but would like to have an idea of whether I should watch out for anything in the meantime.

At some point I read a thread on here about the brakes causing Versas to violently shake, but can't find the thread anymore. Does anyone have a link to that?

Sounds like warped discs.

Can sometimes be fixed with machining.... depends how bad the warping is.

Could be just cold/grabby brake pads combined with the ABS.

I took it to get serviced. They machined my rotors. BRaking is silky smooth now.

Bumping this up again. Versa #2 after totaling the first one, and I have the same issues.

Do I just have bad luck or has noone else experienced this?

Modern OE brake rotors are crap. Every car I've bought since '02 has had this issue within 20,000 miles.

Back when I owned things built in the 80's, I could go oh, 80k miles without having to have the rotors machined.

Worse, EV, is that up here they do it as "par for the course" . . . need it or not. One little ridge and it's almost the end of the world! Extra $$$ in their pockets, I guess.

Oh, there are shops around here that will do that too. I once had a car held hostage by Les Schwab until they did a front brake job.

I made the mistake of letting them do it.

THEY made the mistake of ACTUALLY doing it. They warranty their brake jobs for a ridiculous amount of time, and I ended up coming back 3 times and making them do full brake jobs on the fronts 3 times because the calipers they gave me kept sticking and grinding the rotors.

Oddly, Les Schwab has never offered me a brake job since then.
