I remember a while back I got Brake Rotors from Jason Burtman and they were shipped from some company in Canada.

right now On ebay there's a company in canada selling cross drilled rotors for the 02-05 Q45 and M45 for less then 1/2 the price of Jason's Rotors.

Anyone try them out yet? I want to change the rims on my car to maybe 19 or maybe maybe 20z so I want to upgrade the rotors a little before I go that route.

I bought a set of rotors off Ebay for my 97 Q45. They were crossdrilled and slotted and looked great BUT they were badly warped. The brake pedal pulsed at 30MPH and shook the car at 70MPH. Granted these rotors were extremely cheap $200 for 4 rotors.Maybe I got a bad batch but I put OEM from Nopi and they feel perfect.

If you want to experiment then try it-they may work. However, if its your style to be aggravated by a modification not working out-then its a risk. I experimented because I wanted to an actual answer to the question tht your asking-not hearsay.

agreed, unless your buying a good brand.. Brembo blanks are inexpensive and are great quality.. probably as close as youll get to OEM for less money.

Unless you xray and do tests on the cast iron composition [% of additives] you are buying a pig in a poke vs oem which at least have some standards of quality.

But with dealers marking up costs by at least 100% and Infiniti warehouse marking up from Nissan and Nissan marking up from supplier.

After all a $120 [standard] rotor at retail is just a $30 part from supplier in China.

"After working for an automotive parts distributor (and buying parts at their cost), I don't even question about turning rotors. Turning a rotor for my 98 Dodge Stratus cost $13.00 each at my local parts store. A new replacement rotor (Chinese) cost $7.oo each. Now, multiply these facts times all the brake jobs, local shops, and brake lathe operators, and there goes thousands of US workers made expendable by cheap Chinese imports"

It is ashame that you must pay b $120 to get a $30 rotor vs just buying a $25 rotor for $50...........then again you can just find some $20 rotors and change them every 6,000 miles.

Is there a point where a rotor cant be turned? My old OEM ones were vibrating badly, even lurching at 1-2 mph. I saved them because I never throw old parts away.

They need to stay at least 26mm thick.. Measure the thickness, and say is they still have 27-28mm of meat left on them, you can turn them.

The front have 1mm per side of extra metal per side so each side can wear or be cut trued by 1mm..............or 0.0254"

Because I retrue so often, I try to limit each cut to 0.005 or less........most times I get by with 0.003".

99% of the lathe techs just cut them down ENOUGH so they don't have to do the job again so they way over cut this limiting the life of the rotor.

The minimum is there so that below this thickness with total worn to metal brake pads there is ZERO chance that the caliper piston will over extend out and stretch the seal causing a seal failure and thus a system failure.

Generally all FRONT rotor regardless of thickness use the same 1+1 mm wear limit.

I went with the Slotted rotors before from Jason and I sware from day one I always had a vibration in my car b/w 58-75. changed, rims, changed tires, changed to reinforced tires b/c the guy said the car was too heavy, changed tie rod ends that thing never got any better.

Does Jason post on this forum? I would like to find out if the company that makes those for him balances those things.

I have an 02 Q45 with a Magnum drilled rotors and Akebono pads installed months ago. It has been past 10K+ miles and only last week took the car to the dealer for 60K service. So far during inspection both rotors and pads are still in good shape (70%).

But again be careful when buying thru internet especially ebay. Some of these sellers are tricky and liars. I tried once to get a Axxis pads thru Rotorworks and behold shipped POSI-quiet pads. But got my money back!

Rotorworks is where I got my rotors and pads. While the rotors were crap they did refund $200 of my $250 (I kept the pads) which I felt was fair since they were bad. On a side note I think its critical that people like you and me make purchases like this and then report because that saves other people from making a purchase mistake but more importantly it keeps them from wondering. Before I bought the rotors I was dying from curiosity about all those deals (drilled/slotted and zinc coated for $200!!). I didn't care about longevity or heavy duty performance (track events) all I cared about were replacing my rotors with something that was better looking and maybe stopped a bit better. Now anyone with the same goals as me will know firsthand what the risks are.

I bought a set from canada off of ebay, they suck . Just had them installed yesterday. The rotors cause the car to vibrate when traveling past 60 and cause the car to stuter when applying the brakes forcefully on a hard stop.

On the other hand, they look bad *** behind my wheels and they are a improvement over my worn rotors and they should last close to a year. Not bad for about $50 a rotor which is less then half of what the dealer wants for them.
