I noticed the hat section on my brake rotors are very rusted and they look horrible through my wheels. Should I clean and paint them to prevent future corrosion? What does everybody else do?

Plating is about the only thing that works very long term.

By the time you get all the rust off, you will wish you bought new rotors and pads and get the extra wear.

Stillen Brembo are plated and drilled, and Joe occasionally runs specials.

Did someone replace the shocks without using new rubber?

Spend a little time removing the rust and then paint them with some high temp paint and it will last until your next brake job. It doesn't have to be perfect since the wheel draws your eye.

That level of rust indicates a low quality level in cast iron.

Why not purchase Centric Premium Black Hat rotors and be done with it, as those are probably near minimums anyway.

I have the same problem with my Brembo rotors - I love the rotors, put the rust is visible through the wheels.

Go to Gemplers.com -it's a farm supply house. They sell a really good bottle of "rust killer" coating. You can buy many brands of this stuff at Wal Mart, etc. but this stuff seems better. I use it on my construction equipment and it lasts for years, even without a topcoat. When I have the time, I'm going to pull my wheels, paint the rust on my rotors with Gempler's rust killer, them complete with a coat of flat black.
