So I finally got my front pads and rotors replaced. When I left, it sometimes made a groaning/grinding noise(kind of loud) if I stopped gradually and then released gradually. It didn't do it so much anymore as I drove it more. Is this normal noise in the beginning or maybe they missed a step?

Q45 Tech, if you're reading this I got it done at T3Auto - the one in Smyrna near my work. I tried to email you but it's not listed.

Hello Nadia,

I am not much of a car expert here .. but this is just for your information..

I have a 04 G35Coupe auto with aftermarket pads (not sure about the rotor since i bougth the car used in May 2007) and it has exactly the same problem as yours..

it will make this scary clankin nosie everytime i apply the brake slowly..

i have asked a lot of people on different car forums and some of them said that it is the nature of the aftermarket pads.. that some of them just happen to have louder noise than the others ... while some people suggest that it could be because the pads were not positioned properly in the caliper so everytime when you hit the brake, the pads would have some rooms to move especially when you turn the steering wheel slowly (thus causing different revolutions on each wheel)...i even brought my car back to the dealer regarding this problem three times and they just told me it is because i use the aftermarket pads and it is different size (thickness) compared to the oem pads...

being a very lazy guy who just wanna sit at home watching tv when not working.. i choose to ignore the noise and live with it for now.. but if you are really concerned.. id' say you bring it to an experienced car shop and have them instaleld your pads again..

hope this helps...

Thanks. I dont hear the noise anymore(maybe I haven't braked the same way again) so I'm hoping it was just an intial thing. The pads are stock though but the rotors aren't which is probably why even the brakes don't feel as grabby(even though I thought it had to do more with pads). I kinda miss the grabbiness..
