I have just purchased a 1986 300zx. This car has been basically sitting in a garage for 15 years. I drove it home and parked it and did the basic tune up.

I get into the car and when I go to start it the brake pedal goes to the floor. Vacuum lines are ok for the brake booster.
When I hit the brake pedal I hear a relay clicking near the auto shifter with a definite current drop showing on the voltage meter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

George

Wrong section, you have a z31, posted in z32 forums. Might get better help over there. Dunno about the voltage drop, but check for leaks, namely the master cylinder. If good, try bleeding brakes. Didn't give enough info - sudden problem or had it since you bought it?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Hopefully the mods can move it to the correct section. This is my first Nissan in 30 years!

Upon further review it appears that the front brakes are working but the back are not. I am still getting the voltage drop when I apply the brakes when driving the car. I probably bought the car in this condition.

check the master cylinder and the calipers for leaky brake fluid... the master is what made my pedal go to the ground thanksgiving morning last year on a downhill...

pedal goes to the floor you have a bad master, wheel cylinder, brake line, air in the system or any combination thereof

step one is to bleed the system repeatedly, if you still can't get a still pedal then you need to inspect the lined and cylinders for signs of leakage, if no leaks then you need a new master

as for clickign noise I have no idea, but you shoudl have a small voltage drop when you hit the brakes as the brake lights come on

Clicking noise is the lock releasing to allow you to shift from park to another gear.
