You might have a leake somewhere. See if you can spot a leak yourself. Otherwise replace your brake lines, calipers and possibly the master cylinder and whatever else is part of the brake system. But try to verify where the leak is first.

If you have a z31 you may not have put your caliper on correctly. There is a thing that looks like a cut washer (flat on two sides then round on the other) It has to be placed correctly when put back on. I had that problem on mine and it did make a significant amount of difference when rearranging that small peice.

I have seen a problem similiar to what your talking about a couple of times on 90 to 96 300z but never on a 240sx the booster was actually the problem to be more specific where the master and booster meet. if the rod from the booster was not sticking out of the booster at least 10mm it was determined to be failing. now i dont think the specs would apply to your 240. but if there are no leaks anywhere i would start checkin there.especially if the problem only exist when vaccum is applied to the booster(when the car is running).

You shouldn't have to bleed at all if you just changed your brakes.

If you disconnected the fluid lines for whatever reason, then sure. If you have ABS I believe the ABS unit needs to be bled seperately. I don't have ABS so maybe someone else could give you the details.

It's always good to do a little bleeding. The brake lines don't need to be opened up for air to form. If you were braking hard enough for the fluid to boil then it's always wise to flush out a little.

I'd also make sure the sliding pins in the caliper assembly are working properly. If they are sticking it can cause the brakes to feel mushy. :smoker
