not getting an answer in mech forum; so trying here

Trying to remove my brake booster to paint (leaking master cylinder ate up paint, some rust)

I pulled the line, removed the cotter pin and am trying to remove the clevis pin. However there's a plastic piece on the tip of the clevis pin.

I don't see how to remove it, and the only reference i seem to find about it is that "if it is damaged or deformed replace it".

That being said I don't want to just pry on it till it comes off, it doesn't' seem to want to twist off either, but the plastic clip seems to big to allow the clevis pin to go through the hole (seemingly it's intended purpose). So how do I get the pin out of there?

ok, so I broke the plastic piece but the things out

when I moved the brake I heard liquid w/ the master cylinder removed.. festive... the booster was full of brake fluid. Which (unless the 240 is odd) I was under the impression is just a diaphram and should have no brake fluid..

that being said i guess I need a new one, anyone out there have a brake booster they don't want?

oh, and is that plastic piece on the clevis pin really needed?

Pics to come of what the brake fluid did to the paint and stuff on the brake booster.

well, if anyone is actually reading this never mind on the actual brake booster; going to go special order one from AZ. Need to pick up some new hoses anyway, found some cracked/rotted lines (bottom of fuel pressure reg and one more thing)

yeah there should be no fluid in there. If it were water vapor I could understand, but brake fluid? unless the master cylinder was leaking where it meets up with the booster...

I'd still suggest getting the plastic piece. It's to be expected that it'll be brittle and break during a removal/install though.

yeah that was the deal w/ the booster, I went ahead and ordered one.. took a lot of brake fluid out of it.

So, (a) what is the plastic piece on the cotter pin for (b) where do I get one?

it's probably from around the cotter pin to prevent metal on metal rubbing. you should be able to get that from the dealer.
