The message center in my 1991 Q45 constantly reads "Brake Pads Worn". I have installed new pads front and rear (really didn't need to) and also a new wear sensor in the front. The rear brake pads did not come with a new sensor and the sensor attached looks worn but not to the point where the connection is exposed. Is there a solenoid or something that has gone bad? If so where is it and how do I change it.

Thanks in advance

You can short circuit the sensors. YOull see where the sensor harness plugs in. Just cut the wires, strip them and twist them together. My sensors have been bypassed for ever and its just fine. Just the other day the wire came loose so I had brake pads worn back on my display.... 10 mins to splice them together...

Both sensors are on the passenger side front and rear... Dont try and fight the system, just bypass the sensors... Just remember when the pads need to be replaced (once you hear squealing)

Hopefully the monitoring will result in replacing them before you hear them. Best done wiht about 20% of pad material left, and certainly with only 10% left. Depends how aggressively you use the brakes.

indeed... The wear limit is approx 2mm, and thats just a little thicker than a nickel.. Unless you have the piepan wheels you should be able to tell the amount of pad you have left without taking off the wheel. Otherwise, check the passenger sides because they wear faster...

I would like to fix the problem if possible. I really like the warning when the pads are low. But I guess if this a fault within the system I will just perform the bypass.

Sounds like the most obvious suspect is the worn sensor. Have it replaced.

I agree its a nice system, but once you get the lightonce you always seem to have it until you bypass it..

Besides, you should know your pads need to be replaced LONG before the light comes on!!!!!! They call them IDIOT LIGHTS for a reason!!
