this is for my rear brakes because when i drive, there is this ticking squeeking sound coming from my rear wheels, but it only goes away when i touch the brakes. While driving, if i even just touch the brake pedal, the squeeking goes away. Now its not constant, yet it happens often. For the exact noise its sound like tsk tsk tsk, and gets faster as i go faster.

Thats the history, so now i think i need to at least change the rear brake pads, and maybe even do rotors as well. What would be a good replacement at a good price, im looking to spend about 40-50 on pads and 60-80 on rotors. Help.

and I DID SEARCH

rotora slotted rotors and axxxis pads is what i have for about that amount. I think it was like 230 for everything not including shipping. good mild upgrade though, really stops great.

ive heard that brembro and hawk are an amazing setup for the rear brakesbut ill do that when i finally make the decision to do a 300zx front brake conversion

so what are a good set of brake pads for the rear on stock rotorsmy 240 only has 65k so i dont need new rotorsshould i still just go with Hawk Ceramic Perfomance brake pads on stock rotors???? any suggestions???

If you are planning on upgraded the fronts, I would suggest saving some money towards that end.Go with Brembo blanks, and the best pads available at your local parts store. No sense in doing things twice. Unless you are planning on Z32 fronts and stock rears. Then do the Brembo blanks and Hawk pads. You honestly do not need holes or slots on the rotors.Good pads, good lines, and good fluid.

so your saying brembro blank rear brake pads are the way to go. I dont want to get the cheap beck/arnley from advanced or like duralast from autozone. I want something credible yet also affordable. So basic brembro blank rear ceramic pads. What about a basic hawk rear ceramic brake pad?

Honestly, I have never used ceramic pads. I am currently running semi-metallics from Advance Auto. I have Z32 brakes front and rear, and depending on which wheels I have on, the car stops consistently from 60 mph in about 120 feet with no abs. Thats with a 1" master cylinder, Valvoline synthetic fluid, braided lines, drilled and slotted rotors. I will be upgrading to the 1 1/16 m/c this weekend, I am just contemplating going with the booster off an automatic car. Supposedly its bigger and allows easier pedal modulation.I ordered a full set of Axxis pads, metal matrix I believe, a few months ago. My current pads still have some life in them, I just wanted to be prepared for the replacement. You have me curious now. I may pick out a set of ceramic pads just to satisfy my own curiosity.

really, tell me how that works out

wait, the ones you got from Advance Auto, what brand are they?? beck/arnley or something like that?? Are they good b/c i just might pick them up instead of brembro or hawk pads.

and for the record, we need a brake pad guide hereespecially for someone like me who doesnt really know the difference between ceramic, semi-metallic, and organic.

could anyone tell me what the original 240sx brake pads are made out of.

What i mean are the original 240sx brake pads ceramic, semi-metallic, or organic.

I've been searching online and i found that ceramic are the most quite, lest dusting, brake pads. But, if you car was not ment for them, you would have to check. Also, i've read that usually if you have stock rotors that are not slotted or drilled, you cannot use ceramic or semi-metallic.Can anyone help me clarify this????

Thanks a lot, especially gumby

The stock or replacement pads more than likely are organic or semi-metalic.They tend to be quieter and not as dusty.Once you start upping the bar though you need to start making compromises. Better stopping at the expense of dirty wheels? Consistent braking over rotor/pad lifespan? You are going to find that you can not have everything, so start deciding what is more important and work to that end.As far as my Advance pads, they are Satisfied or Raybestos. Whichever is their premium brand. As for my rotors, understand that slots and holes don't lend themselves to conventional resurfacing. Most places use a diamond bit to cut rotors these days and that just won't jive with slots and holes. These rotors need an old school drum or grinding lathe for resurfacing. Keep that in mind. At some point, I will probably replace my rotors for blanks or either slotted or drilled, but not both.

What rubber do you have on your wheels?Because upgrading the brake is useless if you don't have good rubber anyway. For brakes, upgrading alone doesn't do justice, so be sure to rebuild to old Z calipers and stuff for reliability.

If that was directed at me, one set has Falken RT 615's, another set has Dunlop FM 401's, the next set has Yokohama ES 100's that are about due for replacement. The Falkens are probably going to get replaced with Hankook R2-S's shortly.
