Hello.. I searched but couldn't find an answer to my question..

I have a 1999 infiniti QX4 and wanted to know if I can install Nissan Pathfinder brake pads instead of Infinti QX4 brake pads to my QX4?

If I can, do you know what kind of brake pads and where's the cheapest place I can buy them? I live in the Bay Area, CA.

If I can't, can you tell me why?

Thanks a lot!

If you want cheap, just go to your local auto parts store. I don't know why you would skimp on brakes but to each their own.

They should be the same, they are basically the same truck with different body panels. When I bought my Pathy I put on $80 ceramic pads, and 2 years later they still have at least 1/3 life left. Cheap pads means you will be most likely changing them more often.

I bought Porterfield carbon kevlar pads for my 240sx. . lasted a very very long time. By contrast, I bought cheapies the last time, and at the time I sold it, the things were in horrendous shape. . I probably had them on there a fifth as long as the Porterfields.

My .02 -- don't skimp on the pads

Justy replaced the originals at about 78,000 miles, and yes they were gone... with Hawk LTS Series pads...They are very good...Especially as it's my wife's primary vehicle...

I use Wagner ThermoQuiet. They (Federal-Mogul) make the OEM pads for Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and more. They are quiet, smooth, and brake hard as hell. $75 a pair

I've got O'Rielly Auto Parts holding a set of Wagner ThermoQuiets for me at $46. (Lifetime Wear Warranty)

I put a set of OEM Infiniti Pads on just a couple of years ago and they are gone. They were good pads though. Got 'em from Joe.

I've gone through at least two sets of front pads and the rears look like they're 75% left. Held up the new ones and compared. Amazing how they go through the front pads.

Make sure you're setting your emergency brake everytime you park and leave it. I didn't do that on mine and smoked a pair of front brakes in 4 months. The mechanic told me my rear brakes were so out of alignment that they weren't even touching the drum.

I read in the Infiniti manual that you have to set the emergency brake everytime you park so that it will keep the rear brakes in alignment. Seems stupid to me, but that's how they did it.

I liked how Honda did it - everytime you hit the brake, it works to keep the rear drum brakes in alignment. But then, if you have discs in the back, it doesn't matter!
