i'm thinking about getting some new brake pads and i was looking at some that have lifetime replacement warranties. advance auto parts has some axxis metal masters and some other stores have some ceramic pads around the 50 dollar range that have that warranty. i've heard lots of good things about the metal masters but ceramic pads are generally better. so should i go with the semi-metallic axxis ones or are these cheap ceramic ones going to be better?

I would not buy anything cheaper than metal masters. Metal masters are good, but there are far more high quality pads out there.

Don't buy cheap pads.

It would depend on the car...(and what it is being used for)Cheap autozone pads are probably slightly better then the hawk HPS I have for the first stop, but aren't gonna take heat as well.

That being said I would definitely recommend the HPS, still very good cold, and Ive yet to get them too hot.

the car is used as a daily driver that sees a lot of spirited driving and parking lot fun. i just like to have fun with my car, haven't taken it on any autoXes yet or anything though. i was hoping to stick to some pads from a local auto store so i could have that lifetime warranty. just didn't know if should go with ceramic or semi-met. actually, on second thought, how long do some of these higher quality pads last (axxis ult, hawk hps, etc.)? i bought some cheap pads from autozone b/c i had to get new rotors and wanted to use new pads on them but didn't have any money. i've already had to replace them within a year.

Ummm Ive had the Hawk HPS for a while now.....around a year? maybe more?

I should probably check how much I have left, but they are still good for now...

Parkings lots/autox is not really demanding on pads...The speeds aren't that high so there usualy isn't TOO much heat...

But yeah, I know nothing about the pads you listed so I wont comment.

How long do pads last? depends on applications per mile of driving.........how hard [pedal pressure] for how long!

All pads have exactly the same depth of material so soft pads wear faster than hard pads............every application wears some materail off the pad.

OBVIOUSLY the longer a pad lasts the worse the friction curve, just like tires.

. Your life is worth more than the $10 or so difference.

On another note, I'm sure both will work fine for your application - do you really want to have to question your brake pads when a deer pops out of the woods 30 feet in front of you while you are doing 45mph (#'s just used as an example)? Like most parts, if you have to ask if they are acceptable, you're probably better off getting the better one.

Im gonna have to disagree with you though brokeass...Most random part store pads, unless your really scraping the bottom of the barrel, will stop as good on a random emergency stop(if not better) then a performance/more expensive pad....

The performance aspect of it generally just moves the optimal temperature of the pad upward so it can deal with repeated stops from high speeds like

If I were trying to choose between Hawk HPS, and the HP+ your logic would dictate that the HP+ would be a better safer Idea, but on a street car in situations such as the deer you mentioned it would most likely be harder to stop because performance pads need to be brought up to temperature to have the popper bite...

This is just barely apparent even with the HPS, while they are still good enough to lock up at any time if you have been cruising and they are cooled off it definitely takes a little more break on the first stop.

While expensive may still generaly mean better, better for what? and how much do you need?I think the best street brakepad would make a crappy pad for the track and visa versa

but axxis metal masters are street pads... not even close to race pads. Sorry, I was comparing axxis to no-name.

Guess my last sentence needs to be revised... to something w/ "if you know product 1 is a good applicable bet (you just don't want to pay the $$$ for it), and product 2 is a generic cheaper no-name product w/ no reviews whatsoever... product 1 is more than likely the better choice"

Now that covers your HPS/ HP+ example :p.

And please note, I said "probably better off"...
