Today an auto shop told me I needed new Brake Pads, Calipers & Rotors, my car has been jerking back and forth when I brake and the brakes squeek in the mornings, since I'm a natural cynic, I thought the guy at the auto shop was just trying to juice me up so I'm gonna get a second opinion tomorrow and start my research in case I do need the work done. Any suggestions on Brake Pads, Calipers & Rotors? Thanks and Jah bless

since most auto parts places sell these items, the dealers tend to try and stay competitive. There are usually 3 grades of pads, and at least 2 grades of rotors. The OEM stuff from dealer is usually good quality. I'd phone around and see who has the best price relative to the quality. If you get a super low price, ask if that's for their low grade or premium quality stuff.

The problem you mentioned is usually associated with a warped rotor. I'm not sure why the calipers need to be replaced. You can take out the front rotors and have them turned for @ $30. You can also check the condition of the calipers and pad kit. I don't know which model year you have but for a 99 I30, the front rotor wear limit is 20mm. Whenever you turn or replace the rotor, you should also replace the pads. Metallic pads last longer but tends to squeak more. You can order from Infinitii of Scottsdale or buy from Autozone and the likes. Front pad set @ $50 while each rotor is $50-100.

Instructions on how to remove the rotors is in the FSM or you can do a search on this site. You can also go to the Autozone website and find similar info under "Repair Guide." You may have to register to access the repair instruction.
